Traffic accident status in Iloilo City

The amount is a far cry from the few hundreds of arrests made between January and August of
2019. Typically, three traffic infractions led to the arrest of drivers: not having a license, having an expired
OR-CR, and not wearing a crash helmet while operating a motorcycle.
According to police data on vehicle accidents in Western Visayas, December 2019 was a
dangerous and even fatal month. There were 529 fatalities and 5,139 injuries overall. According to Police
Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, spokesman for the Police Regional Office 6, the majority of those killed
were motorcyclists (PRO-6).

In seven months in 2021, this city and the province of Iloilo experienced the most car accidents.
Data from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) showed that there were 4,550 vehicular cases in the area
overall between January and August. Iloilo Province had 1,251 instances, and Iloilo City had 1,561 total
cases.

These included reckless imprudence leading in property damage (2,482), reckless imprudence
resulting in physical harm (1,817), and reckless imprudence resulting in homicide (251), according to PRO-
6 spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis. However, according to Solis, there were 5.937 fewer
car accidents in Region 6 this year than there were during the same period last year, a 23.36 percent
decrease.

In the first five months of 2022, there was a modest increase in the number of traffic accidents in
Western Visayas. Records from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) revealed that the PSI for the area
from January to May of this year was 4,256 incidents. 3.754 incidences last year were increased by 502
cases, or 13.37 percent, this year.

The two places that managed to reduce the number of vehicular incidents were Aklan and Iloilo
City. Iloilo City reported 1,233 instances, down from 1,392 cases the year before or 11.42 percent. Aklan
registered 153 instances compared to 162 last year, a minor decrease of 5.55 percent.

One of the indicators in the Regional Development Plan 2017–2022 Midterm Update is the
reduction of road crash cases. Region VI aims to reduce the annual rate of traffic accidents by 10%.
