Chapter 2 Form 4: Force And Motion

1. A car is accelerated at 6 ms-1 from an initial velocity 2 ms-1 for 10 seconds. What is
a) The final velocity?
b) The distance moved?

2. A driver travelling at a velocity of 108 km/hr notices a cow in the middle of the road 80m
in front of him. On seeing the cow, the driver instantly applied the brakes and is able to
bring the car to a stop after 6 seconds.
a) What is deceleration of the car?
b) Calculate the distance travelled by the car from the time the drive applied the
brakes until it comes to a stop?
c) Is the driver able to avoid knocking for the cow?

3. By applying the brakes, a driver reduces his car's velocity from 20 ms-1 to 10 ms-1 after
traveling a distance of 30 m. Find the deceleration of the car.
4. Sabrina driving her car at a velocity of 10 ms-1. On seeing an obstacle in front, she applies
the brakes to stop her car. If the deceleration of the car is 2 ms-2, what is the distance her
car travels before it comes to a halt

5. A cyclist starts from rest and reaches a velocity of 20 m s-1 in 8 s. Calculate his
acceleration.

6. A dart leaves the barrel of a blow pipe of length 1.2 m at a speed of 15 m s-1. Find the
time taken for the dart to navel in the barrel
7. Daniel is driving his car at a constant velocity of 20 m s-1. He steps on he breaks to reduce
the velocity of the car to 10 m s-1 after traveling 30 m. Calculate the deceleration and the
distance traveled before the car stops.

8. A light plane needs a velocity of 33 m s-1 for takeoff

If the plane can accelerate at 3 m s-1. Calculate the minimum length of the runway for the
plane to reach the proper speed to take-off.

9. A sports car accelerates from rest and covers a distance of 90 m in 6 s. what is its
acceleration?
10. A baseball pitcher holds a baseball in his hand for a distance of 3 m before throwing the
fastball at a velocity of 39 m s-1.

Find the acceleration of the baseball before it is released.
