Based on uniform acceleration using equations of motion.

1. A jet plane starts form rest with an acceleration of 3m/s2 makes a run for 35s before taking
off. What is the minimum length of the runway and what is the velocity of the jet at take
off?
2. An electron travelling with a speed of 5 x 103 m/s passes through an electric field with an
acceleration of 1012 m/s2.
i) How long will it take for the electron to double its speed?
ii) What will be the distance covered by the electron in this time?
3. A 100m sprinter increases her speed from rest uniformly at the rate of 1m/s2 upto 3/4th of
the total run and covers the last quarter with uniform speed. How much time does she take
to cover the first half and the second half of the run?
4. A driver takes 0.2s to apply brakes after he sees a need for it. This is called the reaction time
of a driver. If he is driving the car at a speed of 54 km/hr , and brakes produce a
deceleration of 6m/s2. Find the distance travelled by the car after he sees the need to put
the brakes.
5. On a foggy day, two drivers spot each other when they are just 80m apart. They are
travelling at 72 km/hr and 60 km/hr resp. Both of them applied brakes, retarding their cars
at the rate of 5m/s2. Determine whether they avoid collision.
6. A motor car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly for 10s to a velocity of 20m/s. It then
runs at a constant speed and is finally brought to rest in 40m, with constant acceleration.
Total distance covered is 640m. Find the value of acceleration, retardation, and total time
taken.
7. A race car accelerates on a straight road from rest to a speed of 180 km/h in 25 s. Assuming
uniform acceleration of the car through out, find the distance covered in this time.
8. A bullet travelling with a velocity of 16 m/s penetrates a tree trunk and comes to rest in
0.4m.Find the time taken during the retardation
9. On turning a corner a car driver driving at 36km/h finds a child on the road 55m ahead. He
immediately applies brakes so as to stop within 5m of the child. Calculate the retardation
produced and the time taken by the car to stop.
10. The reaction time for a driver is 0.6s.If the vehicle can be decelerated at 5m/s2, calculate
the total distance travelled in coming to stop from an initial velocity of 30km/h after a signal
is observed
11. Two cars start off to race with velocities v1 and v2 and let the corresponding acceleration be
a1 and a2. If they reach the final path at the same instant, show that the length of the path is
2(v1 – v2) (v1a2 – v2 a1) / (a1- a2)2
12.
A train starts from rest and moves with a constant acceleration of 2m/s2 for a half a minute.
The breaks are then applied, and the train comes to rest in one minute. Find 1) the
maximum speed attained by the train and 2) the total distance moved by the rain and 3) the
positions of the train at half the maximum speed
Based on Snth formula

cover in 5th second?
2) A body covers a distance of 4m is 3rd second and 12m in 5th second. If the motion is
uniformly accelerated, how far will it travel in the next 3 seconds.
3) A body covers a distance of 20m in the 7th second and 24m in the 9th second. How
much shall it cover in 15th s?
4) A body covers 20m in the 2nd second and 40m in the fourth second of its motion. If its
motion is uniformly accelerated , how much distance will it cover in the 7 th second of its
motion?
5) A body travels 2m in the first two seconds and 2.2 m in the next 4s. What will be the
velocity at the end of the 7th second from the start?
6) A body covers a distance of 4m in the 3rd second and 12m in 5 th second. If the motion is
uniformly accelerated, how far will it travel in the next three seconds?

after 8 seconds it is 34m/s. Find the distance travelled by the object in 12th second?
