5. _ PILE CAPACITY AND TEST LOAD
Based on the factual data and design parameters the axial and lateral capacity of pile is worked out
at test location and summarized below. The calculations are attached as Annexure.
Lateral Capacity for Pile Dia = 1200 mm
+ The 300 mm length for which friction is required to neglect is included,
Based on the structural design the required axial and lateral capacities are about 650 T and 13 T
respectively.
‘As per the code, the test shall be carried out for the loading equal to 2.5 times the design capacity.
For lateral capacity the test pite will be in free head condition. Hence, minimum test loads shall be
considered as below —
Vertical or Axial Capacity
Lateral Capacity = 2.5 * 13
5 * 750 = 1875 Tons (Minimum)
32.5 Tons (Minimum)
6. _ TEST PILE CONSTRUCTION
During construction of test pile, the rock samples recovered from pile boring shall be checked against
the corebox of SC05-02. The pile termination shall be carried out based on the termination level
shown in the drawing. The pile Penetration Rate Shall Be Measured by Depth of Penetration into
Rock Per Unit Time for the record purposes only
The test level shall be marked on the pile surface and extra concrete will be chipped off carefully and
pile top will be trimmed off to a plain and level surface. If during the chipping, weak concrete is met
with at the test level, further chipping shall be carried out till good concrete is met with and the pile
shall be then built up to the test level with the same or higher grade of concrete, After final
preparation, a steel bearing plate shall be set centrally on top of the test pile head by pouring non
shrink grout for levelling if required.
7. LOAD TEST PROCEDURE
The test load provision in the initial load test shall not be less than the estimated safe load multiplied
by the minimum factor of safety of 2.5. Maintained load method shall be followed in this test. The
‘otal load shall be applied in increments of 20% of design load and deflection shall be noted. The
loading will follow the loading sequence chart attached. For each load increment applied, the
displacement will be measured at the time intervals mentioned in the recording schedule attached.

Pile shall be designed as Bored Cast-in-situ Piles as per IS 2911 (Part 1/ Sec 2) - 2010,
The lateral capacity of pile shall be determined for the allowable deflection of pile
As per IS 2911, the permissible deflection is S mm
