Nasi Goreng is a dish of rice that is fried in a wok or frying pan which produces a different
taste because it is mixed with spices such as salt, garlic, shallots, pepper, certain spices
and sweet soy sauce. In addition, complementary ingredients such as eggs, vegetables,
seafood or meat are added. They are often eaten alone or accompanied by other
dishes. Fried rice is a popular component of East, Southeast and certain regional South
Asian cuisines. As a homemade dish, nasi goreng is usually made with ingredients left
over from other dishes, leading to endless variations. Being a pillar of the economy,
the same is true for fried noodles or pyttipanna.

Several popular variations of fried rice have their own specific ingredient lists. In Greater
China, the most popular varieties include Yangzhou fried rice and Hokkien fried rice.
Japanese chāhan is often ascribed to Japan, where it is derived from the Chinese fried
rice dish. Korean bokkeum-bap is generally not considered as such, although there are
Korean Chinese variations of bokkeum-bap. In Southeast Asia, similarly constructed
Indonesian, Malaysian and Singaporean fried rice and Thai khao phat are popular
dishes. In the West, most restaurants catering to vegetarian or Muslim customers
make their own variations of fried rice, including egg fried rice. Fried rice also appears
on the menus of American restaurants that offer dishes without the original traditions
of the dish. In addition, there are variations of fried rice in the southern countries of
the United States. Some of these variations include chaulafan from Ecuador, arroz
chaufa from Peru, arroz frito from Cuba, and arroz mamposteao from Puerto Rico.
Fried rice is a popular street food in Asia. In several Asian countries, small restaurants,
roadside stalls and peddlers specialize in serving fried rice. In Indonesian cities,
common sellers of fried rice can be found moving around with their food carts
stopping at busy streets or residential areas. Several Southeast Asian food outlets
offer fried rice with a choice of flavors and sides.
