INTRODUCTION

The course paper focuses on the reproduction of scholarly terminology in


the article Charles Pierce “A guess of the riddle” and self-analysis in translation.
The topicality of the course paper is determined by growing interest in the
research of the semiotic terminology in Translation Study. Semiotic have been
researched from the point of view of different angles. H. Meush, T. Mykhailova,
O. Pavlova provided articles on theoretical terminology in which described main
theoretical issues, terms features, scientific concept and the position of the
dynamics of terminological norm. Umberto Eco, Everaert-Desmedt , Courtés, and
Klinkenberg written an excellent introduction to semiotics theory. The problem of
rendering semiotic terminology in translation has not been solved yet.
The overall aim of this research is to define and analyse problematic issues
of rendering translation of metalanguage in the article Charles Pierce “ A guess of
the riddle”.
The object of the research is semiotic terms in the article Charles Pierce “ A
guess of the riddle” and translation.
The subject of the paper is the reproduction scholarly terminology in
translation of article “A guess of the riddle” by Charles Pierce.
The structure of the paper includes the introduction, two chapters,
conclusion and the list of references. The first chapter is entitled “Theoretical
aspects of rendering scholarly terminology in translation.”
The second chapter is entitled “Reproduction of metalanguage in
translation of the article “A guess at the riddle” by Charles Pierce”. Each
chapter is further divided into subchapters and paragraphs. Thе paper is structured
in accordance with the objectives.
Introduction presents the aim, object, subject of the research, its corpus,
discusses the topicality and describes the structure.
The objective of the paragraph “ Terminological studies in modern
Ukraine ” is to define terminological studies in Ukraine and who researched
scholarly terminology.
The objective of the paragraph “Difficulties of rendering scholarly
terminology in translation” is to define difficulties which occur in translation
scholarly terminology. This paragraph contains two subparagraphs. The objective
of the first subparagraph “General problems” is to define general problems in
translation and how to eliminate them. The objective of the second subparagraph
“Problems of rendering semiotic terms in Ukrainian translation” is to describe
difficulties in semiotic terms translation.
In the paragraph “Pierce’s article “A guess at the riddle”” a short
description of the article is provided. The task of the paragraph “Charles Pierces
and his terminological jargon” is to show how and when Charles Pierce used
terminological jargon for the first time. The task of the paragraph “Self-analysis of
rendering Charles Pierce’s metalanguage in translation” is to compere source
text and translation, clarify the reproduction of Firstness, Secondeness and
Thirdness in the translation of the article.
Conclusion summarizes the results of the performed analysis and explain
semiotic terms Firstness, Secondness and Thirdness in thranslation.
Reference list contains books, articles, electronic online dictionaries and
Internet sources which were used in the process of the research
