Adhesions, contraction, contractures, cross-links, and scar tissue:

Adhesions:
- Abnormal deposits of connective tissue between two gliding surfaces
o Tendon and tendon sheath
- Once mature: these can be stronger than tissue to which they adhere
o Stretching intraarticular adhesion can avulse cartilage to which they adhere,
rather than tear the ligaments themselves
o Situation like this: forceful manipulation contraindicated
o In some cases where provided movement is not impaired, adhesion will
disappear
 May be due to the remodeling process to which adhesion together with
other connective tissue are subjected
 Frozen shoulder
 Low levels/ young adhesion can probably be broken down by
stretching
