Group 4 Reflection Paper on Group 8 Presentation

HISTORY OF TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE

Transformational leadership is an approach that brings about change in both social

institutions and individuals. It brings about significant and constructive change in the
followers with the ultimate aim of transforming followers into leaders.

Transforming leadership is a process in which leaders and followers help each other to
advance to a higher level of morale and motivation. The approach creates significant change
in the life of people and organizations. It redesigns perceptions and values, and changes
expectations and aspirations of employees.

A transformational leader takes into account the needs of each follower, serves as a mentor
or coach to the follower, and pays attention to the needs and wants of the follower. The leader
shows compassion and encouragement, maintains open lines of communication, and
presents challenges to the followers. This takes into account the requirement for respect and
recognizes the unique contribution each follower can give to the group.
As a result of the transformative leader's attributes, the followers of such a person are willing
to put in more effort since they have faith, admiration, loyalty and respect for the leader.
These results happen because the transformational leader offers their followers something
more than just working for their own benefit; they give their followers a goal and vision that
inspire them and give them a sense of identity. Through the leader's idealized impact,
intellectual stimulation, and personalized concern, followers are transformed and are
intrinsically motivated to do their assignments and have a desire and objectives for personal
growth.

Finally, a transformational leader entails creating an inspiring and challenging vision with the
team, connecting that vision to a strategy for achieving it, developing that vision, defining it,
and translating it into actions, expressing confidence, decisiveness, and optimism about the
vision and its implementation, and realizing the vision through small planned steps and small
successes on the way to its full realization.

In our opinion, although transformational leadership can be applied to foster innovation and
bring about constructive change, it can also boost morale and encourage employee’s
engagement, which improves work output and thus, satisfaction to our customers. Moreover,
to achieve success, transformational leadership strategies can also be integrated with other
leadership philosophies and techniques and may be adapted to the particular needs of the
agency.
