such as homework and quizzes. Students who miss two consecutives (past due) assignment will be in danger to be
withdrawn from the course with an AW.

COURSE TOPICS
 Whole Number and Order of Operations
 Fractions
 Decimals
 Rations and Proportions
 Percentages
 Evaluate Variable Expressions and Formulas
 Real Life Applications will be a focus throughout the entire course.

READING AND ASSIGNMENTS

Unit Readings and Videos. Every unit has a reading material with some written explanation and problem related to
each objective. Most of those problems are discussed in unit videos. After completing each portion of the reading
material attempt related examples in the Unit Practice Problems assignment.

Zoom Tutoring/support/help Class Meetings. Students will participate in concept discovery and class discussion in
a substantive manner. Students have to participate in a substantive manner on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to
7:00pm if we think that the student needs support.

Unit Homework. This assignment serves to learn the material of the unit by practicing problems most of which have
video tutorials and hints attached to them and can be used for learning purposes, as well.

You may work each problem three times before the correct answer will appear (click the link to Reattempt Problem
if you were not able to solve it in the first three attempts). If you start a new problem, you get tentative three chances
for that one, as well.
I expect and encourage you to discuss homework assignments with classmates but you must write your own
solution.
There is time limit on these assignments, the DUE date for assignments of the week is on Mondays at 11:59pm, so
as soon as we finish a topic or weekly unit your assignment will be posted in MyOpenMath you do not have to do all
problems at one sitting, as soon as you notice that your assignment is open start and work with some problems, do
not wait till last minute because your homework assignment is 40 % of your final grade. Late assignments are not
permitted. If a student does not work with an assignment before it is Due the corresponding grade will be Zero.
Unit Quiz Each unit ends with a Unit Quiz, each quiz has no more than 15 problems similar to those in the unit
homework assignment. However, no hints and video tutorials helping you to solve them are provided. You are
allowed 60 minutes to complete an attempt. You will be allowed two attempts for each Quiz.
Proctored Final Exam: This is an accumulative exam. It takes two-hours and it must be taken during the last week
of classes.
Most assignments are available as soon as we finish with our lesson.
GRADING SYSTEM
Student grades will be based upon the following items:
1. 40%   Homework Problems
2. 30 % Weekly Quizzes
3. 30%:  Proctored Final Exam.

The details and policies related to each category can be found in a separate file posted under the syllabus.
NO EXTRA CREDITS WILL BE OFFERED IN THIS COURSE.
