ACKNOWLEDGMENT
hoist, mechanical device used primarily for raising and lowering heavy
loads but occasionally for moving objects horizontally. It usually consists of
a block and tackle—a combination of one or more fixed pulleys, a with a
hook or other similar means of attaching loads, and a rope(or cable)
between them. Motive power for a hoist may be either manual or supplied
by an electric motor. Electrically powered hoists,
commonly mounted to the floor or wall, are used for varied lifting and
hauling operations in factories and warehouses
ABSTRACT
Industrial visiting is an important phase of a student life A well planned
properly executed and evaluated industrial visiting helps a lot in developing
a professional attitude it develops an awareness of industrial approach to
problem solving based on a broad understanding of process and mode of
operation of organization the aim and motivation of this industrial visiting
is to receive discipline, skills, team work, and technical knowledge through
a popper working environment which will helps as a student in a field of
engineering to develop a responsive of the self - disciplinary nature of
problems in mechanical engineering

During the period of visiting at Phibela industry we were assigned to

creating a more efficient transferring through lifting and lowering
operations system in order to help the company to automate all
thematerialliftingandtransferringprocesstoreducehumanlaborthroughoutt
his industrial visiting we have been learned how hoisting equipment work
and the process of lifting and lowering operations system.
1. Introduction
1.1 backgroundinformation
A hoist is a device used for lifting or lowering a load by means of a drum or
lift-wheel around which rope or chain wraps . It may be manually operated,
electrically or pneumatically driven and may use chain, fiber or wire rope
as its lifting medium. The most familiar form is an elevator, the car of
which is raised and lowered by a hoist mechanism.

1.2 definition
Hoists are mechanical or electro mechanical lifting devices that rely on
mechanical advantage to move objects vertically and support hanging
loads. Mechanical hoist equipment distributes weight by using pulleys of
gears to transfer low force over long distance int larger forces applied over
shorter distances. The chain or rope is wound around a barrel/drum or
wheel and further wound around other gears or pulleys with different
radius some of which can be in the load block. This configuration is called
the reeving and determines how the force of a load will be distributed or
transferred. Hoists are used in fixed or mobile applications and can be used
for general purpose lifting or designed for special purposes such as
removing and engine from a car hoists typically incorporate a hock at the
fixed end that connects to a crane or trolley and a hook at the fixed end
that connects to a crane or trolley and a hook at the moveable end which
engages the load
1.3 objectives
The objective of this report is to describe the working principal, the
structure and the purpose of hoisting equipment in different application
area
1.4 types of hoisting equipment

Different types of hoisting equipment

Types of hoist a hoist is basically construction and material handling

equipment that is used to move the material from the buildings ground to
the top floor it works when your mind is sticks to the ideas of manual
working that costs more than any machine

Different types of hoists

Hoists are used different types of lifting moving a load is required not restricted to
the industrial applications hoists have a wide range of application including lifting
cargo construction material engines
• Chain hoist
• Electric hoist
• Wire rope hoist
• Hoist trolly
• Flame proof hoist manual hoist
• Travel hoist
Workingprinciple
Electric hoists are often used on monorail cranes, jib cranes and moving single -
beam cranes. Due to their simple structure convenient manufacturing and
maintenance good interchangeability and easy operation they are widely used in
factories electric hoists can be divided into general electric hoists and special
electrichoistsaccordingtotheirusestheworkingprinciplesofthetwoelectrichoistsarea
s follows

Start the hoisting motor first, lift the heavy object to the proper height then start
the running motor to carry the heavy object to the designated position and the
running trolley will walk on the lower edge of the single I -beam whena motor is
used to drive the wheels on both sides of the trolley because the walking speed is
relatively small, the running trolley generally does not have a braking mechanism.
when the running trolley is walking and electromagnetic brake is set on the lifting
mechanism to prevent the heavy objects from falling. The brake relies on the
pressure of the spring to compress the inner and outer disks the principle is
similar to that of a friction clutch when the brake is released the electromagnet is
used to attract the outer disk to release the inner and outer disc

DISCUSSION
In our industrial visit at Phibela industry hoisting equipment means commercially
manufactured lifting equipment means commercially manufactured lifting
equipment designed to lifting and position a load of known weight to a location as
some known elevation and horizontal distance from the equipment
Rotation hoisting equipment (a mechanical device usually consisting of a
chain cable attach end that is used to facilitate movement of materials
through leverage) is not considered hosting equipment

CONCLUSION
Industrial visits are very important for every engineering student as it provides
as clear picture to the upcoming management in making who have the real for
abright future the rationale of the professional program at Phiibela industry
hoisting equipment are not only the theoretical learning inside the classrooms
or just completion of syllabus but its sole objective is to have practical ledge
with all basic aspects.
The objective of this visit was to study and understand of the lifting and
lowering of heavy material by using hoisting equipment
