Vice Chancellor

Greetings !

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the ICFAI Foundation

for Higher Education, a Deemed University established under
section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. It has evolved a comprehensive student
centric learning approach consisting of several stages, designed to add
significant value to the learner’s understanding in an integrated manner,
covering relevant knowledge, practical skills and positive attitudes.
The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education is a premier educational
institution in Telangana State which is accredited by NAAC with ‘A++’ grade. It
is dedicated to the cause of teaching and research of global standards. It offers
programs in Management, Science & Technology, Engineering, Architecture,
Law and Economics at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
The students are from all parts of India. In fact, there is a mini India on the
campus. The University has a student strength of about 6,000 and a faculty
strength of over 250.
We envision to develop a new cadre of professionals who will not only
command high level of domain proficiency but also have the ability to
integrate activities for developing scientific and technological solutions and
work standards.
The quality of the programs offered at the University is ensured by the

ICFAI started the Ph.D Program in the year 2002 to accomplish a persistent need for
equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills required to become effective
management teachers and researchers. This initiative was a milestone and a defining
moment in the history of ICFAI. Being state-of-the-art program, in terms of its rigor,
quality and interdisciplinary nature, it is regularly updated, benchmarking the academic
delivery against the best academic standards. Adapted from the practices of American
B-Schools customized to meet Indian academic requirements, the Ph.D Programs of
ICFAI Business School (IBS) focuses on content, pedagogy and research.The intensity of the
program demands energy and zeal in the pursuit of greater insight into the chosen topic
and a willingness to master all essential components of academic research. The Program is
intended to nurture and develop budding scholars by imparting knowledge and training in
contemporary techniques for teaching functional and integrative subjects in management.
The Program will provide promising careers for those who are endowed with academic
aptitude, inquisitive minds, and a passion for teaching, research and consultancy.

Full-time Ph.D Programs

Ph.D Program is aimed at producing high quality researchers and teachers. The Ph.D Program is systematic,
meticulous and interdisciplinary with a blend of content, pedagogy and research. The program has four
phases, namely, Coursework, Qualifying Examination, Preparation of Thesis Proposal and Thesis Work &
Submission of Thesis.
We offer Full-time programs in:
a) Ph.D in Management with specializations in Marketing, Finance, Operations and HR
b) Ph.D in Economics
The Full-time Ph.D Programs are of four years duration. Each academic year comprises two semesters:
Semester I and Semester II, each of 6 months duration. During the First year, the students have to go through
course work, along with associateship. Immediately following the coursework, the students undertake a
Summer Research Project.Towards the end of first year, the students have to appear for the Ph.D Qualifying
Examination.After successful completion of the Ph.D qualifying examination, a Doctoral Advisory Committee
(DAC) is formed and students have to develop their theses proposals and demonstrate their progress by
giving research seminars (at least one per semester). By the beginning of Third year, students are required
to defend their theses proposals. In the Fourth year, students have to complete the Ph.D thesis work and
submit for evaluation.

Part-time Ph.D Program

The Part-time Ph.D Program in Management is designed for practicing corporate executives, faculty
members and research scholars who aspire to become thought leaders in the domain of academic
research. The Part-time Ph.D Program works in an almost similar manner as the Full-time Ph.D
Program. However, the course work is completed over a period of two years and the students have
to visit the campus and attend the classes once in a quarter for 9 days.The processes related to Ph.D
Qualifying Examination, DAC formation, Progress seminars, Thesis Proposal submission and Thesis
submission are the same as the Full-time Ph.D Program.

Full-time Ph.D Programs

The Ph.D Program is rigorous and interdisciplinary. It is regularly
updated, benchmarking the academic delivery against the best
standards. The program has four phases namely; Coursework,
Qualifying Examination, Preparation of Thesis Proposal and
Thesis Work & Submission of Thesis.
Prerequisite Courses: Candidates seeking
admission for Ph.D possessing a post graduate degree in
disciplines other than management (MBA) are required to attend
the 16 courses of MBA program offered during Semester-1 and
Semester-2 as well as the Business Strategy course as a pre-
requisite to proceed to the course work phase of the Ph.D
Program. The candidate is also required to secure a CGPA of
7.5/10 as well as a grade not less than ‘D’ in all the courses at
the end of Semester-2 of MBA. The candidate is also required
to complete the 12 weeks summer internship program of MBA.
Ph.D Course Work: The objective of the
coursework is to impart scholarship and to equip the student
with the latest developments in the discipline, including the
tools of research.
In the first year the student takes 8 courses of 4 credits
each spread across two semesters. They consist of Seminar
Courses, Inter disciplinary Courses, and Research Methods.
Each course is allotted 33 classroom sessions of 1 hour 15
minutes each. The number of hours of work to be put in by
the student for a particular course depends upon the number
of credits allotted for that course. A credit is a convenient
unit which denotes the estimated time required to be put
in by a student for the course during the week, including
classroom sessions.
Students should maintain a minimum GPA of 7.5/10.0 in
each semester. However, if the GPA falls below 7.5/10;
the performance of student will be reviewed and he/she
may be given an opportunity to improve the performance,
completely under the discretion of the management. The
student is expected to secure a grade ‘C’ and above in all the
courses, failing which he/she will be required to repeat the
course and improve the grade.
However, in case of consistent low grades, students may
be allowed to continue in the Program without stipend and
will be given one chance to show an improvement in their
performance in order to continue in the Program.

Students will do a research project in their area of interest
under the guidance of a mentor and will present a research
seminar before he/she takes the Ph.D qualifying exam. The
objective of the Summer Research Project is to ensure that
the student is exposed to research writing leading to a future
publication. This project is evaluated and graded as Satisfactory/
Unsatisfactory.
Ph.D Qualifying Examination: Students,
who successfully complete the coursework with a minimum
CGPA of 7.5 along with a satisfactory grade in the summer
research project, are eligible to appear for the Ph.D qualifying
examination based on the completed coursework. The
examination will be conducted in the area of specialization and
students’ knowledge in the coursework and their ability to
apply the same in research. It will consist of written papers
followed by a viva voce.
Preparation of Thesis Proposal: Upon
successful completion of the Qualifying Examination, the
student should work for preparation of the Thesis proposal and
defend the proposal at a seminar, prior to its submission, before
the faculty members and fellow Ph.D students in the presence
of the Doctoral Advisory Committee. The student is expected
to complete and submit the Research Proposal for Ph.D Thesis
within two semesters of passing the Qualifying examination.
Students are also expected to present at least one seminar per
semester in their respective departments demonstrating their
progress.

Fee for Full-time Ph.D Program
The selected candidates have to pay an Admission fee of
`40,000, on or before April 22, 2023. The Program fee is
`60,000 per Semester. The Program fee is provided as financial
assistance by IBS and is waived off, subject to meeting minimum
academic requirements as specified by IBS.
Fellowship/Stipend for Full-time
Ph.D Program
All students (Pre-Ph.D) admitted into the first year of the MBA
program will be given a fellowship of `20,000 (Rupees Twenty
Thousand only) per month and free on-campus accommodation.
All students admitted into the Full-time Ph.D program will be
given a fellowship of `25,000 (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand
only) per month and free on-campus accommodation in the
first year.
After passing the Ph.D qualifying examination, the students will
be paid a fellowship of `35,000 (Rupees Thirty Five Thousand
only) per month till the student defends the thesis proposal.
Stipend of `40,000 (Rupees Forty Thousand only) per month
will be paid to the student, after successful defence of their
thesis proposal and up to the completion of four years of
PhD Program. Stipend would be paid for only 48 months
(4 years) from the date of commencement of the Program or till
completion of PhD Program, whichever is earlier. In lieu of this
fellowship, the students may be required to provide support for
teaching / research / administrative activities of the University
for up to 10 hours a week.
A professional development grant of `20,000 per annum is
also given to the students for the four years, for attending
conferences, workshops and seminars. On successful defence
of the Ph.D thesis by the students, they can pursue their
career in any organization of their choice. However, such

candidates may also opt to apply to IFHE or any of its sponsor/
constituent/affiliate/associate organizations and their request
may be considered for a position of faculty at a suitable pay
package, under a separate offer of appointment based on their
educational background, performance in the Ph.D Program and
availability of vacancies.
In the event, the student withdraws from the program, the
student is liable to refund the stipend and the program fee
provided as financial assistance by IBS. To this end, the student
is required to execute a financial assistance agreement along
with a guarantor for the financial assistance provided by IBS and
submit the same on the day of registration.
Part-time Ph.D Program
The Part-time Ph.D Program in Management is designed for

Selection Process
Selection Process for the Ph.D programs is conducted online for the candidates shortlisted based on
(IBSAT2021/GMAT/CAT 2021/ NMAT by GMACTM 2021 scores).The admission decision is based on
the overall performance of the candidate. A composite score is computed for each candidate based
on his/her past academic record and performance in the Aptitude Test in Research Methods, Micro
Presentation Technical cum Personal Interview.

3 Selection Process
The Online Selection Process comprises of an Aptitude Test
in Research Methods, Micro-presentation and an Interview. The
aptitude test in Research Methods is to assess the candidates
fundamental understanding in statistics.The judging panel for the
micro-presentation will assess the candidate’s communication
and presentation skills. The candidates are expected to prepare
a power point presentation on a topic of their interest from
their area of specialization and the duration should be limited to
15 minutes. The interview panel will attempt to understand the
candidate’s profile and the commitment to opt for an academic
career.The purpose is also to assess the intellectual abilities and
the research aptitude and will focus on in-depth knowledge of
the domain area that the candidate wishes to specialize in.
The results of the Selection Process will be declared in the1st
week of April, 2023.

4 Eligibilty Criteria
1. Ph.D Program in Management (Full time/
Part time):
• Graduation (any discipline) with 50% and above marks with
medium of instruction as English and
• Post graduation in Management ( full time with specialization
in Marketing/ Finance/ Human Resource Management/
Operations from an UGC approved University) with 55%
and above marks or
• A professional qualification like CFA/ CA/ CWA/ CS with
55% and above marks.
• All applicants should have completed a minimum of 17
years of education (on 10+2+3+2 or 10+2+4+2 basis).
2. Ph.D Program in Economics (Full time)
• Graduation with 50% and above marks and
• Post Graduate in Economics or allied discipline with 55%
and above marks.
• Minimum 17 years of education (10 + 2 + 3 + 2 or 10 +2
+ 4 + 2). For the purpose of determining eligibility based
on the percentage of marks, the procedure used by the
respective University in award of the degree will only be
taken into consideration.
Candidates not meeting the eligibility criteria of English medium
in graduation and/ or post graduation have to submit the TOEFL/
NELT/ IELTS score by May 31, 2023.
Eligibility criteria will be checked from August, 2023 onwards.
Hence, the onus of ensuring that they satisfy the eligibility
criteria rests solely with the candidates.

It has been a really nice experience pursuing my Ph.D here at IBS Hyderabad.
The Ph.D coursework (the first 12 months preceding qualifying exam) at IBS

During the tenure of four years as doctoral student, I had the opportunity to (Ph.D Batch 2010)
attend numerous workshops including those on various research techniques,
software applications, case writing techniques, teaching methodologies, etc. My
experience at IBS with the Ph.D program was very rewarding. I was selected
as a Visiting Doctoral Scholar to the University of Toledo (Ohio, USA), College
of business and innovation under the guidance of Dr. David Dobrzykowski and
Dr. Ragunathan. However path is not that smooth, immense rigor needs to
be put in place throughout the Ph.D tenure, especially during the coursework
before the qualifying exam and the proposal defense stages (two vital crossover
points in the life of a doctoral student). But, I will say that it is worth putting in
that effort because at the end of the IBS Ph.D program, the scholars get well
equipped to face the challenges of management research as well as teaching

inception. However, the continuous support extended by the experienced
faculty members and the seniors helped me in keeping my morale high
throughout my coursework. As a result of the rigorous and scholar oriented
coursework, I could present my papers in the conferences organized at
prestigious institutes including Harvard University, IIM-B and IIT-D in the first
year of the PhD program itself. Meanwhile, my paper was also accepted for
publication in the forthcoming issue of IUP Journal of Soft Skills. Opportunity
to listen to experts invited from other institutes, establishing rich network of
intellectuals and financial support provided by IBS are the benefits to name a
few. Lastly, I owe all my learnings in the field of research to IBS.

Enriching Experience
I had my most enriching academic experiences at IIMT as a doctoral student.
The faculty pool was simply amazing. The colleagues I had were all great both
in terms of knowledge and experience. The visiting faculty was best in their
respective fields. The amount of workshops and interactive sessions were more
than sufficient to enhance my teaching and research capability.
One thing that stood out was the hands on teaching experience that was provided
to me by IIMT. After one and a half years of course work, I was tasked with
handling a statistics course independently. That did wonders to my confidence.
Senior faculty was always on hand to provide guidance. The atmosphere at IIMT
was always collegial. The library at IIMT was good.
I was allowed to participate in conferences that led to building a professional
network. Overall it was a very satisfying experience which I would cherish all
my life.

The Ph.D program offered by IBS Hyderabad is unique in its own right. It is a
judicious blend of research oriented class room experience where contemporary

from access to databases, articles, well stocked library to insightful members of

(Ph.D Batch 2011) The work of a student is channelized into a certain direction based on his/her
area of interest since the inception through the Independent study seminars and
Departmental seminars where scholars from other departments can help refine
the idea further.
One of the major attractions of this program is the VSP, which lets one visit to a
foreign university that helps broaden the mental horizon as well as helps in the
research work too. The structure of the program is such that it not only lets
one delve deep into different kinds of research but also gives hands on exposure
to teaching in the form of teaching assistants under tenured professors letting
the students get the best of both worlds. The research environment is vibrant
and encourages scholars to publish their work in collaboration with others and
independently in journals of their respective fields.
The University itself is endowed with several journals publishing in a wide spectrum
of streams and has subscription to others. In toto the Ph.D program is a process
which leads to transformation of a student to an expert in his/her field of study.

“Visiting Scholar Program: a bon voyage of learning”

It all started as a Ph.D student in June, 2010. The first year was a rigorous
course work followed by continuous evaluation and eventually the qualifying
exam. Indeed it was one of the most memorable times in my student life when
I met new colleagues and made friends. The kind of stimulating discussions we Dr. Santanu
used to have in the research labs; late night studies till 11 pm in the library;

subsequently coming back to hostels and preparing research presentation for
next day’s classes till 4 am; searching for research papers using Google scholar; (Ph.D Batch 2010)
downloading them and discussing them with our colleagues were all sweet
memories that I will cherish forever. The seniors and the respective faculty
have been very helpful in the entire course work. They were always ready to
help clearing the doubts that used to reside in my mind and knocking their
doors anytime has been always welcomed with a greeting smile. The research
seminars and faculty seminars have been very stimulating and encouraging.
Though it was a memorable journey but not without hard work. It will be hard
to forget the rigor of the research classes and the final qualifying exam.
Further, I learnt a lot during my Visiting Scholar Program at Spears School of
Business, Oklahoma State University (2012-13). It did give me great exposure
to newly evolved methodologies; research topics and exposure to a foreign
culture. This was a boon for young research scholars like us to present our
university on an international platform, as I presented two research papers at
the Production and Operations Management Conference 2013 held at Denver,
USA. Currently, as a final year Ph.D student at IBS, Hyderabad, I feel the entire
program has been greatly rewarding.

Ph.D program at IBS has a clear defined objective of grooming young
promising researchers in the field of management science. It is a four year
rigorous program which prepares and sensitizes the scholars to all the
nuances of research in behavioral sciences. The program includes in-depth
understanding of different tools used in research analysis. The rigorous and
intensive one year course work provides theoretical and practical exposure
pertaining to different aspects of research which enables the scholar to attain
the necessary knowledge and skills and implement the same in the respective
Ph.D dissertation and in class room teachings as well. Throughout the four
year program the scholars are monitored and evaluated on a regular basis via
different assignments, projects, workshops and seminars. The foundation of
understanding and presenting research papers from journals of good repute is
laid from the very beginning. Throughout the four year program the research
scholars are encouraged to present papers in National and International
Conferences which again helps them a lot in widening their horizons. Ph.D
program exemplifies IBS’s commitment towards becoming a research oriented
institute. It helps and prepares the Research scholars for attaining Faculty
positions in leading universities in India and across the globe.

I have completed 4 years in IBS as a research scholar pursuing my Ph.D
in the area of Organizational Behaviour. Right from the beginning of my
MBA course, Organizational Behaviour as a subject had intrigued me a

lot. Human beings are the most complicated creatures in the world. Their
varied activities, the different kinds of displayed behaviour, their attitudes, (Ph.D Batch 2010)
etc. stemming up from varied personalities forms an integral part of human
psychology. The reasons and logic behind such actions pose questions,
solving which in itself is, though arduous, but is an interesting task. OB as a
subject has helped me and provided me with a systematic framework and
answers for such questions. I was very sure about the fact that I want to
further hone my knowledge in the subject. Doing a Ph.D was therefore a
viable option for me and consequently I joined IBS, Hyderabad in June 2010.
I chose this institute as it is considered one of the premier B-schools in our
country. The program structure here is quite rigorous which makes it sure
that the scholars get ample opportunity to excel in all areas like Research
Methodology, International Business, Corporate Ethics etc. The faculty and
administration here is supportive and constantly encourages quality work.
Along with research, teaching too is an integral part of the Ph.D curriculum
at IBS. Teaching has always been considered a noble profession. The little
experience which I had by teaching here in my college for five semesters
also made me realize that the best part is that one keeps learning new things
every day. At the end of the day, I shall always be grateful to IBS for giving me
a chance and for providing me with such a unique platform.
