Case Study – 1

Question 1: How has Listo Systems felt the impact of power shifting from the Seller to the

Buyer?

Ans: If a company tries to stay on top of the chart, they should maintain the strategic progression

of their company and move along with the environment. Listo system were late to realize that

they had faced their rivals with higher and better technology than themselves. Listo has grown

very fast. This has created problems for Listo to understand the need of the consumers. The

power shift from seller to buyer indicates the end of the old management system. The company

needs to do more research about the competitors, economical situation and the need of the

consumers.

Question 2: What external environmental factors are affecting Listo Systems?

Ans: There are some external factors involved in here that are affecting Listo Systems. It is

much more severe than the internal factors. The very first factor is the technology. The company

failed to adapt the new technology and because of this they are failing and can not keep up with

its competitors. Another factor that is drawing Listo System down is the customer. Listo is

clearly failing to deliver customer what they are in need of. Hence, if other companies provide

the need of the customer, they will eventually shift from Listo. People tend to look at the quality,

service and latest technology and providing them with their requirements keeps them in the radar

of the company.

Case Study – 2

Question 1: Discuss Jackie's dilemma in terms of cognitive dissonance.

Ans: Charlie Damon hired Jackie Hartnett because of her technical skills that were perfect for

the job. Jackie had interest for a well-being environment where as Damon didn’t had any. Jackie

was always sincere about the safety disposal and about making environment green. When she

was hired, she was moved by the interest of her boss about green employer. But when she

discovered about how the waste material are sold to another company who are not that careful

about saving the environment she was hurt. There were signs of conflicts in her attitude. This

was Jackie’s dilemma in terms of cognitive dissonance.

Question 2: How could this new information on Dorf's actual recycling program affect

Jackie's perception of the company she works for? What impact could this have on her

overall performance? Are her personal values around recycling strong enough to

determine who she works for?

Ans: Jackie Hartnett believed in the recycling program. She had always wanted to help the

environment and worked towards the cleanliness of it. However, her belief was broken when she

came to know about the waste management of the company that she was hired for. It created

conflicts on her attitude and behavior. This could leave an impact on her overall performance.

She could feel stressed out as her thoughts will be wrapped around that matter. Her productivity

could go lower than regular. There will be conflict of decision for her interests. She could not

move forward against her wills as she had high belief in her personal interest. Her personal

values are strong enough and because of that she is now in a great dilemma.

Question 3: Do you think Jackie should ignore the company's choice to recycle or not and

just keep doing her job? Is she willing to walk away from a good paying job with benefits?

Are there other employers who are likely to be more open to recycling programs, and

should she pursue opportunities with those companies?

Ans: No, I don’t think Jackie should ignore the company’s choice to recycle and just keep doing

her job. It would be a burden for her for the rest of her life. She had such high belief since her

childhood and suddenly because of her work if she had to break that belief it would eventually

tear down her performance as well. She will lose her moral values and her own personal interest.

It would continuously put pressure on her mental state and she would be in a conflict with her

interest. Therefore, I think that she should pursue with those companies who are likely to be

more open to recycling programs. That way she will feel peace and will be able to work as per

her will.
