Drawing the head Part 1

 Start with a circle

 Next an oval that represents the side of the face. It is always 2/3rds the height of the circle.

 To get the oval’s proportions create a line from the top of the circle to its centre and divide it
by thirds. The top third is where the oval begins. Do this for the bottom half as well.

 The width of the oval depends on the direction the person is looking, i.e. the left and right
turn of the head.

 The top portion of the oval falls in the top corner of the forehead. This is where the front
plane means the side plane. And this area is usually rounded; and it usually lies at the end of
the eye brow.

 The up and down tilt is indicated by an angle on the side plane, which is from the ear to the
brow moving across the front plane.

 Draw a line at the bottom of the oval that is parallel to the centre line. This represents the
bottom of the nose. Drawing the same line at the top of the oval will give you the hair line.

 The face can be broken down into nearly perfect thirds from the chin, bottom of the nose,
the brow and finally the hairline.
