Drugs are substances that can change a person's mental or physical state.

Drugs make people behave in

unpredictable and dangerous ways, which leads to serious social and criminal problems.

Talking about drugs situation in Lithuania I can say that the average age when young people try drugs for
the first time in my country is at the age of fourteen. In 2007, the most popular drug was cannabis.
Amphetamine and cocaine were the most used among young people in 2015, and until now the rates of
its use have been falling. And from 2019 until now, young people mostly use sleeping pills without a
doctor's prescription. From 1990 to 2012, drug use in general rose to 21 percent and from 2012 to 2022,
it fell to 19 percent in Lithuania.

Talking about other countries

For example, in Poland the most popular drug is cannabis and 28 percent of Poland population is taking
this drug. Then 8.5%, (or about 23.6 million) of Americans reported struggling with a Nicotine addiction.
22% of Italians suffer from cocaine use.

So, looking at the fact that the percentage of drug use in Lithuania has decreased and is now lower than
in many countries, I can say that the problem of drug use in my country is not catastrophic.

Talking about my city ,I haven't heard of anyone being accused of drug use, so I think it's not very big
problem in Druskininkai.

I don't have bad habits and I don't know if it's easy to get drugs in my hometown. However, I am familiar
with the information that many teenagers in my city are addicted to e-cigarettes or alcohol.

As I said before drug taking is not a very big problem in Druskininkai so we don't have programs to fight
drug abuse. And it is not a very big deal in the entire country because the percentage of drug taking has
been falling.

Talking about ways which could stop trafficking and spread of drugs, the first thing that I suggest is to
reform sentences for drug dealers and give them not only jail sentences but very big fines as well. The
second way to stop the spread of drugs is to search various educational and work institutions every year.
And I believe that those thing would help to solve this problem.
