Music, drama, art, dance lessons should not be compulsory subjects

There is much debate about the subjects being taught in schools. Some people believe that music, drama,
art and dance should have an important place in education, but others deny this kind of view and claim
that these lessons should not be obligatory subjects. In my opinion, all students should have the right to
choose which arts subjects they want to study.
Firstly, not everyone has the ability and potential to be an actor, play an instrument, dance or draw. All
people are unique and have different hobbies or goals in life for which they work. For example, one may
have the desire to act while the other one cannot bear to be on stage. Thus, students who know what
subjects they are good at could spend their time properly and not waste it on the subjects for which they
have no wish and potential.
Secondly, there are students who attend music, art, dance or drama schools, therefore they are already
familiar with the material taught in mainstream schools. In fact, there are many students who develop
their artistic knowledge in specific schools. For example, the one who is keen on drawing can attend an
art school while the one interested in music can go to a music school. It is important to choose subjects in
school because this way students would not need to learn the things that they already know.
On the other hand, there are people who think differently and suggest that it is crucial to learn all the
subjects without choosing because it is necessary for the general education of a person. Those people
believe that everyone should know at least the basics of all the subjects because this way they would have
a wide outlook and good education. They do not consider, however, that a person is not a computer and
he or she cannot know everything and save a large amount of information.
Taking everything into account, I think that students should be able to choose subjects in schools and
spend time on the subjects that they really need, and arts should not be compulsory ones.
