Force And Pressure- Revision 2: Solutions

1. FBD diagrams as discussed in class

2. At a depth of 30m below the sea level, pressure will be high as compared to pressure at sea level.
The additional pressure will be due to 30m of water column.
At 30m above the sea level, pressure will be lesser than pressure at sea level. The decreased
atmospheric pressure will be due to 30m lesser atmospheric column at that height.
Besides, water is denser than air. So pressure exerted by a column of water will be more than
pressure exerted by an equal column of air.

3. Only two forces- Force of gravitation and normal reaction will act on the body but they will form a
balanced pair.
When objects are at rest or in uniform motion (i.e. constant velocity), either no force acts on them or
the forces are balanced.

4. Pressure decreases as we move up. So our ears pop to equalize the pressure between our outer and
middle ears.
Yawning helps as expulsion of air from the mouth decreases the pressure in the inner ear and we feel
comfortable.

5. (i) thrust is perpendicular force……will remain same

(ii) Pressure will increase as area of contact will decrease.

6. a) muscular force b) magnetic force c) electrostatic force

7. 1Pa= 9.8 X 10-6 atm

So 1.66 X 106 Pa= 1.66 X 106 X 9.8 X 10-6 atm
= 1.66 X 9.8= 16.268 atm

8. Volume of cube= l X l X l= 5 X 5 X 5= 125 cm3

Density= 5g/cm3
Mass= volume X density= 125 X 5= 625 g= 0.625kg

Thrust= mg= 0.625 X 10= 62.5 N

9. F= 1000gf A= 1/100 cm2

P= F/A= (1000/ 1) X 100= 10000= 105 gf/ cm2

10. Area of 2 tyres= 2 X 10cm2= 20 X 10-4 m2

P= 3 X 105Pa= F/A
So F= P X A= 3 X 105 X 20 X 10-4= 600 N

M= F/g= 600/ 10= 60kg
