Socio cultural perspective of Matilda by harry styles

For me matilda is someone who has grown used to a toxic relationship with their family whom ‘never
showed her love’. Or they have abused her in a way that has left them traumatized or broke them
inside. So, the song asks, why? The way the song views it, Matilda has the world in front of her. Instead
of chaining herself to her family and constantly reliving the misery, she should not associate with those
people and realize the wrong treatments they have done. It recognizes leaving such environments finally
finding love and joy, and you don’t have to feel guilty for doing so. In a way, it addresses the issues of
abuse, acceptance, and love experienced by lgbtq+ individuals in their family that could outturn in self
issues that are also left unacknowledged resulting in suicides. In a different perspective, it could also
speak about feminism. It exposes the workings of a patriarchal society which imposes restrictions on a
woman’s mobility, freedom, and independency.
