The discussion began with discussing the area of interest under the broad topic of energized
public spaces in Indian cities. It came from personal experience and observation to look into and
research gender spaces and women's safety in the public domain of Ahmedabad city. The guide
suggested looking into the other research work or books written in this field of research within
the Indian context as well as internationally. Websites like Jen Ghel, Project for public spaces,
and Chaal Chaal Agency by Kruti Shah and Shilpa Ranade are to be looked up for further
references for inclusiveness of informality and gender in designing of public spaces. It was
necessary to understand the physical as well as the psychological aspects to understand the
sociocultural background of public space. The guide suggested starting to work on the
bibliography and literature review and also on the research proposal.
