SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
1. FUEL LID OPENER COMPONENT
Detects fuel lid opener switch operation and sends fuel lid open request signal to hybrid vehicle
Fuel Lid Opener Switch
control ECU.
The fuel lid courtesy switch detects the fuel lid open/close condition signal to hybrid vehicle control
Fuel Lid Courtesy Switch
ECU.
Fuel Lid Opener Motor Assembly Actuates to open fuel lid according to signal from hybrid vehicle control ECU.
When the hybrid vehicle control ECU receives signal from the fuel lid opener switch, it actuates the
fuel lid opener motor.
• Inputs signal from fuel tank pressure sensor.
Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU
• When difference between atmospheric pressure and fuel tank internal pressure exceeds
specification, hybrid vehicle control ECU operates fuel vapor containment valve.
• Detects status of fuel lid courtesy switch.
Combination Meter (Multi-information
The operating state of fuel lid opener system is displayed on the multi-information display.
Display)

2. FUEL LID OPENER SYSTEM FUNCTION

(a) When pressing the fuel lid opener switch, a fuel lid
open request signal is sent to the hybrid control
ECU, and the fuel lid opener motor actuates to open
the fuel lid.
HINT:
When the difference between atmospheric pressure
and fuel tank internal pressure exceeds the
specification, fuel vapor containment valve is used
to adjust the pressure. During the adjustment,
"PLEASE WAIT NOW OPENING" is displayed on
the multi-information display.
NOTICE:
• If the fuel tank pressure sensor or fuel vapor
containment valve is malfunctioning, the fuel
lid does not open.
• If the fuel lid courtesy switch is
malfunctioning, "CLOSE FUEL LID" is
displayed on the multi-information display
even if the fuel lid is closed. ED

NOTICE:
*: Before measuring the resistance, leave the
vehicle as is for at least 1 minute and do not
operate the power switch, any other switches or
the doors.
If the result is not as specified, the DLC3 may have
a malfunction. Repair or replace the harness and
connector.
(b) Connect the cable of the intelligent tester (with CAN
VIM) to the DLC3, turn the power switch on (IG) and
attempt to use the intelligent tester. If the screen
displays a communication error message, a
problem exists in the vehicle side or tester side.
HINT:
• If communication is normal when the tool is
connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3
on the original vehicle.
• If communication is still impossible when the tool
is connected to another vehicle, the problem is
probably in the tool itself. Consult the Service
Department listed in the tool's instruction manual.

DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

1. DATA LIST
HINT:
By reading the DATA LIST displayed on an intelligent
tester, you can check values, including those of the
switches, sensors, and actuators, without removing any
parts. Reading the DATA LIST as the first step in
troubleshooting is one method of shortening diagnostic
time.
NOTICE:
In the table below, the values listed under Normal
Condition are reference only. Do not depend solely
on these values when determining whether or not a
part is faulty.
(a) Put the engine in inspection mode (See page ES-
11).

INSTALLATION
NOTICE:
• Avoid touching the stroke portions of the rod as much
as possible to prevent foreign matter from attaching to
the stroke portions. Be sure to hold the cylinders
while servicing the vehicle.
• Do not wear cotton gloves or other similar materials
when handling the rod. Fibers may attach to the rod
and result in gas leaks.
• Do not apply any load to the cylinders in the horizontal
direction in order to prevent the rod from being
deformed.
1. INSTALL HOOD SUPPORT ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the hood support assembly.
NOTICE:
• Install the hood support assembly while
supporting the hood by hand.
• Check that the hood support assembly is
engaged in the ball joint and that the hood
support assembly cannot be pulled out.
DISPOSAL
1. DISPOSE OF HOOD SUPPORT ASSEMBLY
(a) Secure the hood support horizontally in a vise with
the piston-rod pulled out.
(b) Wear safety glasses. Use a metal saw to slowly cut
a groove between A and B shown in the illustration
A 80 mm B
(3.15 in.)
to release the gas.
NOTICE:
B127037E01
Although the gas inside the hood support is
colorless, odorless, and harmless, metal debris
may scatter. Therefore, cover the hood support
with a piece of cloth or other material.
