1. In tabular form, list at least five hydrocarbons used in heating purposes and
used for medical purposes. Note also the specific use/s of each substance and
health hazard.

Ethane Used to make ethylene, which is subsequently
utilized by the petrochemical industry to make a
variety of intermediate goods, the majority of
which are eventually transformed into plastics.

2. What household products contain hydrocarbons?

Hydrocarbons include baby oil, mineral oil, household lubricating oil, lamp
oil, torch fuel, lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene, motor oil, heating oil, hair oil, and
some kinds of furniture polish and etc.
3. What are the effects of hydrocarbon?
When a hydrocarbon gets into the stomach, it usually passes through the
body with little more than burping and an episode of diarrhea. However, if it
enters the lungs, it can cause a pneumonia-like condition; irreversible,
permanent lung damage; and even death. The combustion of hydrocarbon
fuels releases carbon dioxide (CO2), as well as other greenhouse gases that
contribute to atmospheric pollution and climate change. Unlike fossil fuel
impurities that result in byproduct emissions, CO2 is an unavoidable result of
hydrocarbon combustion.
4. Differentiate aliphatic hydrocarbons from alicyclic and aromatic
hydrocarbons. Provide an example of each.
