Triangle Proportionality

Theorem 55
If two triangles have equal
altitudes, then the ratio of
their areas is equal to the ratio
of their bases.
Example
Theorem 56
Two triangles on the same base
and between two parallels are
equal in area.
Example
Theorem 57
If a line is parallel to one side
of a triangle and intersects the
other two sides in distinct
points, then it divides the sides
proportionality.

Example
Theorem 58. Converse of the Proportionality Theorem

If a divides two sides of a

triangle proportionally, then the
line is parallel to the third side.
Example
Complete each proportion.
AB / BM = ? / CD

a) BC b) AC c) MD d) MC

Answer: b) AC
In the Fibonacci Squence (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, ...),
each term is the sum of the two previous terms
Fibonacci Sequence
(for instance, 2 + 3 = 5, 3 + 5 = 8, ...). As you
go farther and farther to the right in this
sequence, the ratio of a term to the one before
will get closer and closer to the Golden Ratio.
