A single tuned mass damper inerter S-TMDI has been accepted as an effective, lightweight

passive control device via incorporating the inerter into convention tuned mass damper TMD.
consist of a classical TMD, generally installed at roof with its mass connected to a lower floor
throughout inerter.

The aim of introducing these various devices are to enhance the so-called conventional passive
S-TMDI, considering two facts which are: (i) the limit distance of hanging the inerters’ terminal
with the TMD mass, (ii) the backward action produced by the inerter and returned to the building
in S-TMDI may either reduce as well as limit the device performance.
It is observed that the several engineering demand parameters and response indicators
investigated in this study, including peak displacement demand, absolute acceleration, ISD and
base shear demand
the response reduction order obtained in peak displacement demand, absolute acceleration, ISD
and base shear demand achieved by both control devices are almost the same.
The P-DMTDI and S-TMDI dynamic parameters are optimized using multi-objective particle
swarm optimization algorithm (MPSO).
