• Statement 1 is correct: Under PMMVY, a cash incentive of INR 5000/- is provided
directly in the account of pregnant women and lactating mothers(PW&LM) for
the first living child of the family subject to their fulfilling specific conditions
relating to Maternal and Child Health. The eligible beneficiaries would receive the
remaining cash incentives as per approved norms towards maternity benefit under
Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) after institutional delivery so that on an average, a
woman will get INR 6000.
• Statement 2 is correct: PMMVY is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. It provides
grants-in-aid to the State Governments/ Union Territory Administrations (UTs) in a
dedicated Escrow account for the purpose of direct benefit transfer to the
beneficiaries.
• Statement 3 is correct: A beneficiary is eligible to receive benefits under the
scheme only once. That is, in case of infant mortality, she will not be eligible for
claiming benefits under the scheme, if she has already received all the instalments
of the maternity benefit under PMMVY earlier.

• Statement 1 is not correct: This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi in January 2015 at Panipat, Haryana to address the declining child sex ratio
and related issues of women empowerment over a lifecycle continuum.
• Statement 2 is correct: It is a tri-ministerial effort of the Ministries of Women and
Child Development, Health and Family Welfare and Education( earlier Ministry of
Human Resource Development). The key elements of the scheme include the
enforcement of the PC and PNDT Act, and a nationwide awareness and advocacy
