Medieval Technological Advancements

Purpose:

1. In BEVERAGES, during the Medieval Period, clear and cleaned drinking water were limited because of pollution
of watercourses by human activities around rural settlements, also to mention that fruit juice was only
available in a specific season. People started making their own beer (which is weaker and heavier now today
ages) that contains 1-5 % alcohol, it had no foam and was bread with wheat which they called it the “White
Beer”. In the 15th century, people decided to add “Hops” for a better beer quality and also bringing out new
flavors
2. In Reading and Literatures, Reading was a rare skill in the Medieval Ages, even the penniless could not afford to
read since it was accessible easily by the nobles and Scribes which keep records the Territorial Court and the
meetings of the City Councils. Literatures in the Medieval Ages were highly based on Latin Languages. It served
as the International Communication by the Church and the Bible, in early 14th century, literatures also included
various genres like Spiritual and Secular Lyricism (love stories), epics and dramas.
3. In Armor and Warfare, in Medieval Period, War and Invasion were known activities. manufacturing capabilities
also grew stronger and also the forges developed new ways in improving armors, often combining layered and
steel armors for full protection in case of battle, Kettle hats were developed. Armors of high quality were made
by Italy and Germany, one source also states that Combination Armors were the best for offering protection
which is based on around chain-mail, supplemented by plate armor on the limbs and a simpler version of
cuirass. Warfare also grew since the creation of siege units like Rams and Catapults to help destroy gates and
walls and shock soldiers during wars. Cavalry also grew since stables was developed and expanded and horses
were easy to trained to help them travel far routes for merchants and horse riders.
