Lesson 1: Value of Man
1. Man has a physical structure similar to other living
creatures on earth such as plants and animals.
Man is subject to enjoy life, pain and sickness.
- Terribly complex being
- Subject to pain
- Body becomes source of needs
- Man is capable of conceptual thought, which
distinguishes him from other creatures on
earth.
- A person may emphasize the cognitive
element and approach life as an intellectual
matter that provides reasons for everything.
- Man likewise experiences the presence of a
spirit in him.
2. We see persons differing from one another though
possessing certain common traits.
A person is a being existing in a relationship with other
beings.
- New beginning
- Realization of past hope
- Meets his need and grow
3. Every created thing has a purpose for being.
Man acquires a purpose for his existence by
continuously creating, liberating and realizing himself
and his environment.
-Life more meaningful Development as persons
4. Man likes to think of himself as being born free.
Freedom to be or not be is one of our basic human
rights.
- God-given right
- Acceptance and appreciation
- Limitation of freedom by the norms, values and
mores of culture.
4 ASPECTS OF MAN
Man has mind, body, and spirit.
Man is unique.
Man having purpose and a mission.
Man being born free.
VALUING PROCESS
1. Peace and Harmony
2. Respectful handling of fellow human being
3. Man is an essential human being.
4. Love is the call of the person.
5. Man keeps his spirit strong
Lesson 2: Self-Knowledge
3 Parts of the Self
1. Self- Knowledge (or self- concept)
Information about self- awareness, self- esteem and
self- deception
2. Interpersonal Self (or public self)
Self- presentation, member of groups, relationship
partner, social roles,
reputation
3. Agent Self (or executive function)
Decision making, self- control, taking charge of
situations, active responding
Giftedness - Our giftedness speaks to us of God’s
goodness, because in our giftedness, we
come to know we have nothing, which we have not
received.
Brokenness - It is the awareness of our sinfulness or
brokenness also speaks to us of God, for
paradoxically our sinfulness is a gift.In our brokenness
we come to know God’s acceptance and love.
SEVEN CAPITAL SINS
1. Pride- unrestrained appreciation of our own worth
2. Anger- inordinate desire for revenge
3. Lust- hankering for impure pleasures
4. Avarice- immoderate desire for earthly goods
5. Gluttony- unrestrained use of food and drink
6. Envy- sorrow over another’s good fortune
7. Sloth- laxity in keeping the Faith and practice of virtue
Steps to Overcome the Seven Capital Sins
Pride → Humility
Greed/Avarice → Generosity
Lust → Chastity
Wrath/Anger → Patience
Gluttony → Temperance
Envy → Charity
Sloth → Diligence
THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FOOL
LUKE12:13-21
Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my
brothers to divide the inheritance of me.”
Jesus replied: “Man, who appointed me a judge or an
arbiter between you? Then he said to them “Watch out!
Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man does
not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain
rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself,
what shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.”
Then he said, “This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my
barns and build bigger ones and there, I will store all my
grains and my goods. And I'll say to myself, “You have
plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life
easy; eat, drink and be merry.””
But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life
will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you
have prepared for yourself?”
“This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things
for himself but is not rich towards God.”
Lesson 3: My Family

enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role."

The angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation
salutes her as "full of grace".

In fact, in order for Mary to be able to give the free
assent of her faith to the announcement of her
vocation, it was necessary that she be wholly borne by
God's grace.

Through the centuries the Church has become ever
more aware that Mary, "full of grace" through God,

was redeemed from the moment of her conception.
That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception
confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854:
“The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first
moment of her conception, by a singular grace and
privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of
Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved
immune from all stains of original sin.”
The doorstep to the temple of wisdom is knowledge
of our own ignorance.

Persons are open and relational by nature. No man is an
island: we grow into our full selves as persons only in
relating to others. “We Filipinos are never alone”. We
realize being a person means by others (our conception,
birth, upbringing).
Being with others (our family, friends, neighbors,
business associates), and being for others (love,
service). This is how we have been created by God—as
social beings.
This is how we have been redeemed by Christ—as
people. This is how the Holy Spirit works not only within
but among us as the people of God, journeying toward
our common destiny in God.

Psychodynamic Theory
- Freud tells of the significant contribution of
early years in the development of a person. He
believed that the childhood experiences of a
man bear a significant impact and influence on
his adult life.
- It is in our early experiences that we establish
the foundation of our being as a person.
- Our family and childhood experiences are one
of the best foundations of our personality.
- We relive our past experiences, especially about
our families, we bring out both the positive and
negative feelings, the pleasant and unpleasant
memories.
- The pleasant memories energize us and give us
a feeling of gratitude.
- Negative feelings are more of a problem,
especially when they are not resolved through
the years.
Steps in healing these unsolved memories
1. We acknowledge these feelings and memories.
2. We try our best to understand them.
3. We accept them.
4. We forgive them.
Lesson 4: Inner Peace of Man
Global solidarity - Is the call of the hour for a world of
nations trying its best to survive on a planet trying its
best to also survive.
Peace must begin with each one of us

new and creative ways can be found to foster
understanding, friendship and co-operation among all
people”

Peace - is rare item in today’s world; in fact a rarest
commodity
A culture of peace is necessary for a meaningful life for
all persons.
The process of peace building starts from within the
heart of each individual, and when this is shared with
other groups and culture, it can lead to peace.
PEACE, INDIVIDUAL INNER PEACE
Is a state of calm and quiet, free from disturbing
thoughts or emotions. Tolerance is the act or practice of
sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practice differing
from one’s own.

In the Personal realm, peace accepts who and what he

or she is living in a culture of peace intrinsically edifying.
He or she is able to relate with humility, sensitivity and
consideration for others.

God - the source of our inner strength and the center of

our spiritual consciousness

Peace is a gift from God - The root meaning came from

Hebrew “ Shalom” means wholeness.

Peacemaking - Is the work of nonviolence. Active

nonviolence is the heart of peacemaking. It is the
attempt to find alternatives to killings, to violent
conflict, and to threats of mass destruction.

We make peace - We help bring about world peace, if

we make peace wherever we go, in our homes, in our
school, in our church, and in our community.

But peace starts in the heart of every human being and

in the following of the spiritual laws of God.

God is the ultimate source of love where in peace can

be achieved thru Him and in Him.

Harmony is a dream of every person that God can only

manifest and provide this.

With peace and harmony, our world will be a heaven, a

better place to live in. where everybody is united and
believing that there is a God who loves us so much.
