Three questions by Lorena

The author of this discussion post mentioned three main questions that needed to be

answered to help understand how to make parents more engaged in students' lives to improve

their education. The first thing author talks about is volunteering. Parents and other interested

people can improve the education system and the school environment through volunteering.

Through such activities, parents could share their talents and experience with children,

effectively influencing their school performance. I think fairs, talent evenings, and project

competitions are events where older family members can participate. Home activities are another

method through which parents could help their children. During these events, parents could learn

about academic work and curriculum-related activities. As a result, they could help their children

to do homework and other school assignments. The last and most important and effective method

is communication activities such as workshops and teambuilding, which help to interact between

school programs and students' progress.

Reaching School Goals by Lorena

The author of the post wants to have three main things in their workplaces: the district’s

support and engagement, information about our program within the community, and good

communication. The author shares their own experience as an example. They noticed that their

preschool does not get much support and attention as public schools do because they are working

with migrants. I think this is what usually happens to most institutions working with non-

residents, and what the author suggests doing is a great idea. The author wants to have public

school training to become more knowledgeable and effective in introducing interaction between

the community and its programs. Sometimes public schools own better resources that could help

non-public organizations and institutions dealing with migrant families. Sometimes these

organizations have outdated pieces of information and programs no longer available, so they

cannot perform enough support. It is sad to know that due to these issues and circumstances,

places, as the author mentioned, cannot always help their clients.

Partnerships

According to the author, parents, family, and the community collaborate to improve

students' education. I have also agreed that now teachers are working with child's parents, which

makes teaching more effective. In addition, now teachers are more open to communication with

society and parents regarding children's education. This may be because there are now programs

to train the workforce. In addition, I also agree that children now have more opportunities to

collect information about the college or university they are interested in through working with

consultants and career guides. The author also shared his personal experience of working in

community schools. He worked with local law enforcement agencies, which in turn helped

educate both children and parents and teachers, which really surprised me. The pandemic has

also affected the way the author works. He has worked with the health department, which has in

turn worked to clarify any questions or concerns parents may have, helping us understand what

to do in the event of a positive infection.

Week 2 Ted Talk Discussion 1

The author has mentioned three main things they think are essential for better education

performances of the children. There are a partnership, early education, and working with the

family's household. I agree that nowadays, parents are taught how to communicate with and

support their children to integrate them into the public state schools successfully. In this, the

community plays a valuable role. The author suggests organizing free events for the community
4

where people can freely share their experiences and thoughts to help children get a better

education. I share the same opinion as the author regarding the parent's role in receiving a good

education for their child. Parents should not be afraid to share their views regarding education

and school programs, as everything they would do will effectively and positively affect

children's future. So as the parents, the author believes that being part of a community where our

voice is heard can help the community see what is needed.
