Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by over 258 million people in India and around the

world. It is the fourth most widely spoken language in the world and is the official language
of India.
Hindi has a rich and fascinating history. It evolved from the Sanskrit language and has been
shaped by various cultures and civilizations over the centuries. The influence of Persian,
Arabic, and English can be seen in the language, making it a unique blend of various
linguistic traditions.
Hindi is not only a language of communication but also a medium of cultural expression. It is
the language of Bollywood, the world's largest film industry, and is widely used in poetry,
songs, and literature. The language is also an important tool for preserving the cultural
heritage of India, as it is used to tell stories, convey traditions, and pass on values and
beliefs from one generation to the next.
In addition to being a language of communication and cultural expression, Hindi plays an
important role in education and business. It is a required subject in many schools and
universities and is widely used in business and government. It is also an official language of
the United Nations, further emphasizing its importance on the global stage.
I came to think school in the very beginning of 11th, and I was introduced to subject options.
Back in India there is not subject options it is just science, commerce, and arts. Basically,
science has physics, chemistry, biology and math, commerce has stats, accounting and
business management and finally arts has history, geography, drawing and painting.
Coming here gave me more options but with that came a lot of stress about what my
second language must be because I was put to German beginners class. I had to change
from german beginners to self taught mainly because German universities do not accept a
diploma with german beginners. The first day in the self taught class was pretty weird, I was
told things like make a booklist, find a tutor and many more to add to this list.
I found the tutor pretty early but making a booklist was a real challenge. I had to sit with my
dad search for books, see if the authors are in the prescribed list of authors…. in the end the
book list was made…. Honestly it was just made I had no clue what kind of books they were
how hard were they.
The classes started and in the 1st month I released some things, my language understanding
was very restricted, and my vocabulary wasn't as big as expected. I didn’t study hindi for 2
years that is 9th and 10th because I had chosen Sanskrit (which is easier to do because it has
only one word answers). I speak three languages at home and whenever I don’t find a word
in that language I just put the same word from different language in that sentence. So,
talking in only one language was a little bit kind off hard at the beginning.
It has been about 5 months that I have taken Hindi A self taught, and can tell that maybe the
beginning was a little rough but as the classes began and time went by it became better, of
course there were parts which made me go like why am I doing this, this is too boring for
gods sake and an example for this is a poem which was entirely on war – how it is required
at times, why is it required and what problems are causes after the wars - a real global issue
but it was around 108 pages of war which was too much for me.
Now I can say that I am in a better position with hindi, not the best as I am still improving.
Self taught actually gave me a chance to see a language in a different perspective, here all
the way from the tutor to the books was my choice. It has been a pretty good experience all
to together and I feel it will become even good by the end of 12th where I can confidently
communicate only in Hindi
There actually a pretty funny incident which happened. On the first class with my tutor she
asked me read, it took be about 7 to 10 minutes to read a page. She was shocked because I
made it to the end of page maybe she wasn’t hoping me too, but she told that I will have a
class everyday!! And ever since then she has been making me read and ananlyze loudly to
her in hindi!! It is for the best but at time it is a little too much
