Student Name: ______________________ Grade & Section: ______________

Teacher: ___________________________ Date Submitted: ______________

I. Introductory Concept
This module contains instruction how to check troubleshoot repair and it will lead you to
identify the common defects and remedies of CCTV System

II. Learning Competencies: Diagnose faults and defects of consumer electronic products
and systems
Sub-Topic: Observe systematic pretesting procedure in accordance with
manufacturer’s instructions
Code: TLE_IAEPAS9-12SCEP-DEASS-IIa-c-49

OBJECTIVE/S
1. Identify the 3 basic Pretesting procedures in CCTV installation
2. Differentiate Aided Visual Inspection and Unaided Visual Inspection
3. Name common system defect/fault in CCTV installation

III. Activities
A. Lesson Information
PRETESTING PROCEDURES

1. INTERVIEW OF CUSTOMER - Provided with the newly purchased CCTV, gather and
document the information about the appliance at hand. Follow the procedures below:
1. Conduct an initial interview to the owner of the appliance.
a. Ask what the problem is. (If any)
b. Make an initial inspection of all the components.
-Power cord and cables- make sure there is no internal cut/loose wire
-Inspect the camera especially the lenses, broken lenses may result to a
low quality images
-Screws of DVR are tightened
-Plugs and connectors are complete
-other accessories are checked and available
2. As a serviceman, you must recognize the problem
a. Request for the details of the problem (if any)
3. Checking of Physical appearance, Operating controls and other parts.
4. Take note of the information gathered and observed.

2. VISUAL INSPECTION: - or Visual Testing (VT) is the oldest and most basic methods of
inspection. It is the process of looking over a piece of equipment except the naked eye of a
trained inspector. Visual inspection can be used for internal and external surface
inspection.

Type of Visual Inspection

a. Unaided Visual Inspection- Inspection of components or parts of electronic

device without use of any opto-electrical or electronics devices is call Unaided
Visual Inspection

b. Aided Visual Inspection- Inspection with the use of any optical or mechanical
instrument
Optical Aids – Microscope, Video Cameras, etc.
Mechanical Aids – Calliper, Depth gauges, etc.

3. SYSTEM DEFECTS/FAULT SYMPTOMS

Newly purchased CCTV did not guarantee you a 100% operational upon its first
installation, below are some common problem encountered in CCTV installation and
their fixes

a. Black and White Images - Ensure that the

ambient lighting conditions match your CCTV
cameras requirement. If they don’t, you can look
into installing additional light sources.

b. There are Horizontal Lines on CCTV

Video- may due to interference from
ambient lighting or electrical interference.
Make sure there’s no electrical lights that
falls directly on the camera. Check the
cable for shielding damage. If using
particular long cable or coaxial cables, make sure that all cables are routed
correctly, ensure that the cable are routed away from high frequency equipment
like satellite.

c. CCTV Camera Footage is Noisy- Noisy

footage is generally a result of electrical or RF
interference. Check connectors and cables for damage.
Especially analogue video cables. Make sure all cable
are routed correctly, away from interference sources,
and correctly grounded if required

d. No Video Signal- This is, by far, the most

frustrating CCTV problem.
Check that the camera is correctly powered
make sure they’re plugged in and undamaged.
Check the fuse box.
Check CCTV Software
Check the camera or damage

e. CCTV Camera Isn’t Working at Night- If the

camera is rated for night use, but all you get at night is a
black image, it’s typically because the IR LEDs
aren’t working. Common reasons why that happens
include:
Camera misconfiguration
Insufficient power
Damaged LEDs

f. DVR is Not Recording Anything- If the CCTV is working fine but the DVR is not
recording anything, common culprits include misconfiguration, lack of storage space,
and failing DVR components.
Check that recording is enabled
Ensure that there is sufficient storage space available on your
DVR

B. Task 1:
DIRECTIONS: Identify the picture show below. Write UVI if the picture shows
Unaided Visual Inspection and write AVI if the picture shows Aided Visual Inspection

Example: UVI
