Burton came to Nebraska from Texas Tech, where he served as an associate athletic

director for compliance for one year. While at Texas Tech, Burton helped complete the NCAA
investigation into the Red Raider athletic department and analyzed the entire compliance
system at the institution. He also helped identify and implement financial aid and eligibility
systems, including changes in personnel and restructuring of the compliance department.
Burton, who was a member of the NCAA Division I women’s soccer committee for three Women’s Golf Communications
years and was a member of the NCAA Division I bowling committee, served as a legislative
administrator for the NCAA from 1989 to 1993. At the NCAA, he was involved in the 26th Season

Griesch enters his 23rd season as a radio color commentator for Nebraska women’s basketball
in 2020-21. He also spent 11 seasons as the host of the Nebraska Women’s Basketball TV Show.
He has served as Nebraska women’s basketball contact at 11 NCAA Tournaments, including
the first two NCAA Sweet 16 bids in school history (2010, 2013). He also has helped promote
three first-round WNBA Draft picks (Lindsey Moore, Kelsey Griffin, Nicole Kubik) and two first-
team WBCA All-Americans (Griffin, Jordan Hooper).
Griesch spent six years as an assistant director and two years as a graduate intern in the
Media Relations Office, after starting his sports information career as a student in October of
1995.
In 2007-08, Griesch’s Nebraska’s women’s basketball media and recruiting guide was voted
the third-best guide in the nation by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA). His women’s golf guide also finished third in the national contest, the highest rankings
in history for both of those publications.
Griesch’s 1997-98 wrestling guide was voted “Best in the Nation” by Amateur Wrestling
News and finished second in the CoSIDA publications contest. The Nebraska women’s soccer
guide finished in the top 10 four straight seasons, including a third-place finish in 2000. His
2003-04 women’s basketball guide was voted “Best in the District” and 11th in the nation,
after finishing 12th and winning “Best in the District” honors in 2001-02.
From 2000 to 2009, Nebraska’s media and recruiting publications and posters earned nearly
200 national publication awards from CoSIDA, with Griesch helping to coordinate the printing
of those publications.
Griesch earned a bachelor’s of journalism degree in news-editorial from Nebraska in 1996.
He was the first two-time recipient of the CoSIDA/Wylie Smith Postgraduate Scholarship and
was a Regents Scholar as both an undergraduate and graduate student. He recently ended a
three-year team as the chair of CoSIDA’s prestigious graduate and undergraduate scholarship
committee, which has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to exceptional candidates in
the media relations field since its inception.
Griesch and his wife, Emily, are originally from Wayne, Neb., and have a daughter, Hollan,
and three sons, Jackson, Brennan and Isaac.

The daughter of Mark and Pam Herzog, Leah has two older
brothers, Patrick and Jordan, and two older sisters, Brittany and
Stephanie. Her father, Mark, was Red Wing’s head golf coach
through her senior season. Stephanie is a fifth-year senior on the
golf team at Iowa in 2020-21. Leah has spent her summers playing
and working at the golf course in Red Wing and teaching junior
golfers.
Herzog is an English major and was a WGCA Scholastic All-
American in 2020. She earned two spots on the Nebraska Scholar-
Athlete Honor Roll in 2019-20, including a perfect 4.0 GPA in the

A tremendous resource for all academic
abilities, unlimited tutorial support from
approximately 75-100 tutors on staff is
available from day one up to college
graduation in all subject areas. The tutorial
program is certified as a model tutoring
program by the College Reading and
Learning Association.
STUDY HALL
Nebraska’s study hall program is housed
2020 NCAA TODAY’S TOP TEN AWARD in the Scott Technology Center within the
Student Life Complex. Student-athletes
attend a supervised, flex-time study hall
that features day, evening and weekend
hours. Student-athletes are required to
complete a specific number of study
hours each week as determined by
their academic counselor and/or coach.
Additional performance-based or tutor-
based study hall also may be determined

MERCURIO MENTORING
TRACK & FIELD Academic support staff serve as mentors
to all incoming student-athletes and select
returning student-athletes. The student-
athletes meet with their mentor weekly to
develop time management skills, gather
and report academic progress information
and discuss academic success strategies.
EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS
Assessments are administered upon
the request of the student-athlete,
academic counselor, or coach. Learning
specialists are available to administer
and score informal assessments, which
