The 10 Life Lessons

of

A Rose for Emily

Life Lesson 1

Don't trust immediately to someone that shows something strange. This is

what happens to Homer before she got poisoned by Emily, as he trusted Emily even
though Emily shows something strange after her father's death.

Life Lesson 2

Be concerned about your neighbours. Ask them if they're okay. Emily's

neighbours were  just shocked, after Emily's death, when they found out many things
about her. It is because no one tries to communicate with her when she's still alive.

Life Lesson 3

Don't be hopeless when your works become useless at first. The time will
come, and people will thank you for doing a wonderful masterpiece. Faulkner's first
short story, A Rose of Emily, received minimal attention at first but became one of
the most popular works. Later on, Faulkner won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949
and is now hailed as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century

Life Lesson 4

Everybody is moving forward and you should as well. As our life is full of

surprises and circumstances, no matter how we want to stay in the happiest time we
should still move forward cause that is what life is. As for Emily, the hardness of
moving forward because of her father's death made her remain and be stuck in the
past and did not move forward to hope.

Life Lesson 5

Words are like a dagger to a person. Society's judgement and opinion of the
person make the person feel more miserable. Just like the dagger, words coming from
their mouth are the dagger that made Emily feel more crucial.

Life Lesson 6

Showing a sign of emotion is not labelled as weak. The world is crueller than
ever to Emily, especially the way her neighbourhood makes her the menu and the talk
of the town, made Emily to hid every fragment of her emotions and side story on her
own. Therefore the judgement of society for showing a sign of emotions is nothing
but a whole joke, showing a sign of emotions is not for the weak, it is a sign that a
person is still living to survive.

Life Lesson 7

Let the people chant their mouths about you since that is the only thing they
can possessed. For Emily being the talk of her town, and for being a person who still
keeps her head up amidst the gossip, this shows the aspect of society nowadays.
Words of a person will not define you, let them talk about you and spread low-grade
rumours, their words probably felt like daggers however never let the daggers aim and
affect you as a whole. Don't let their words affect you cause you are more than the
person on their make-up fallacies.

Life Lesson 8

Be kind in your surroundings. No matter how rough a day you encountered never
reflect your rough day to others. In the case of Emily, her surroundings are like a
cloud of black smoke that can't be tamed as they keep growing the flame of talk about
Emily without them realizing if their words might affect the person that is why being
kind to others are the smallest thing you can do. We do not know if the people we
encounter in our day are experiencing a rough day nevertheless small good actions to
them can make their feelings better since there is no price to being kind.

Life Lesson 9
Acceptance will lead us to another door. As for Emily who clung to her past
and stay there until her last breath. This speaks that a person should not let themselves
be stuck in the past and should accept how time flows.

Life Lesson 10

Love should not be toxic. Following how Emily loves Homer to the point that
she drugs the love of her life so in that way, Homer will stay by her side until her last
breath. This scene indicates that Emily's love is toxic, to the point that her love for
Homer made her kill him and in overall aspects of the story, it tells how Emily's love
for Homer turned into an obsession. Reflecting on society, love in many ways should
not be toxic and it should not be selfish. Furthermore, love should not be destructive
to a person. Love should be free and should make the person grow.
