Answers:

1. The text is trying to make me realize that despite the differences in religion and the conflict
between Christians and Muslims, I must still respect the other religions. And though the history of
the terrorist attacks leads me to believe that they were masterminded by Osama Bin Laden, who is
a Muslim, I will not generalize that all Muslims have bad intentions. I think the article also wants
me to make direct judgement or criticize the situation easily.

2. The interest that is being served by the text is the religious people specifically Christians and
Muslims, also the government, the people who are good in critiques and the journalist.

3. Muslims

4. The position of the speaker/writer in this text is on the Christians point of view only and I think
the point of view of the Muslims must also be considered. He is also persuading his readers to
have awareness and to have judgement but the other point of view was not included.

5. Awareness and to think critically

6. Yes, the speaker justifies his point of view with factual information through expressing opinions
of the people especially to the side of Pastor Lapa. “He said the American attacks, now popularly
believed to have been masterminded by Muslim and wanted international terrorist, Osama bin
Laden, was the work of such extremist groups. Pastor Lapa said Muslims should not have been
allowed into the country because they had”a different belief, a different saviour who was known as
Muhammad and their teachings encouraged war and violence”. Pastor Lapa is the chairman of the
association which was launched at the Holiday Inn yesterday. He paid tribute to the late founder of
the association Reverend Sione Kami”.

7. Yes, a further justification on his point of view to make it clear and have a better understanding
of a reader, but I think the Muslims point of view especially Osama Bin Laden will be better to
make it more interesting.

8. Pastor Lapa’s purpose in writing the article is to have awareness to the conflicts between
Christian and Muslims especially that the terrorist attacks has already happened in United States.
On the latter part of the article Pastor Lapa also wants to promote Christianity; preach the gospel
of Christ and promote unity among all Christians.

9. No, Pastor Lapa did not justified the view of National Constitution that guarantees “freedom of
religion”. From the start of the article until the end I think it’s all Pastor Lapa’s point of view only
that contradicts the beliefs and actions of Muslims and focusing on his association about the
Christians.
