WORKSHOP 1: Conceptualizing a Classroom-Based Action Research Project

Deadline of Submission: November 13, 2020 | 3:00PM

Suggested Title: PROJECT E-MOTIONALS : ALS

A Concept Paper

Group members:

Name Region

1. CATHY T. MABALAY V

2. LIZA B. MELGAR V

3. THEA ZALA T. OLAGUER V

Rationale

1. What is the research about (in general)?

 This study primarily focused on developing an alternative learning software that can be used either as a stand-alone or an aid to
instruction. The developed e-Motion: Alternative Learning Software (ALS) provides an interactive learning experience for students
along the different topics of motion
2. What is/are the trigger(s) for this action research? What is the major issue to be studied?

 21ST century teachers must be competent to use the different instructional materials to reach and satisfy students under the K to 12
curriculum
 Instructional materials plays a significant role in obtaining the learning outcomes, boosting the interest of the learner. Psychology
says that learning becomes more effective if the factors like motivation and interest are taken into consideration. The more senses
involved, the greater effectiveness (Education II – Educational Psychology, page 2).
3. Why do you think that an action research framework is appropriate for this study?
 Action research framework is appropriate because it seeks transformative change through the simultaneous process of taking action
and doing research at the same time. This is through creating innovation in teaching science (creation of software) and testing it's
effectivity to learners.

Context of the Study

1. What can you say about the social and organizational situation where the action research will take place?
 In conducting this action research, it is important to coordinate to the partner school by having an agreement with the school
head to conduct it in one section in grade 9 students then we could expect that the school head will notify his or her science
teachers.
2. What is the organizational structure and position/roles of people?
 School Head- overall chairman in the conduct of the study in school
 IT expert who will develop the software
 Science teachers – evaluate the validity of the software
3. What is your relative position/role in the situation?
 Facilitator of the study and the one who will identify the topics involving motion

Intended Action

1. What actions do you plan to undertake in response to the issue/problem that you have identified? Provide the details of your plan.
 Describe the procedures in developing the e-Motion: Alternative Learning Software.
 Acceptability of e-Motion: ALS to the High School Science Teachers and technical experts in terms of:
a. Subject Matter presentation
b. Sequencing of lessons
c. Assessment Activities
d. Technical Quality
 Identify the lesson exemplars that can be developed using e-Motion: ALS
2. How can this plan potentially address the problem?
 This study aims to have an effortless instruction by creating a friendly and manageable software for the teachers and learners
3. Who will be involved in this plan and what would be their roles?
 Researchers- identify the topics involving motion
 IT expert who will develop the software
 Science teachers – evaluate the validity of the software

Purpose Statement

Write a statement that conveys the overall objective or intent of your action research. This statement should introduce the action research,
signals the procedures you will use to collect data, and indicates the type of results you hope to find.

The researchers, with the help of an IT expert, aim to develop a software that is focused in promoting independent learning in physics,
particularly in topics concerning motion. Educational software refers to software that can be used by the teachers and students to support
teaching and learning. Educational software is essential in any learning environment to allow teachers and students to maximize the power of

the computer. There are hundreds of educational software titles available on the market but not all are suitable for use in schools (National
Centre for Technology in Education, Nov 08, page 1). A trend that supports student-centered learning by providing lectures and evaluations in
an interactive format that is accessible to each student with the guidance of the facilitator that promotes independent learning, which enhances
the student’s critical thinking skills and self-assessment. After developing the ALS, several science teachers as well as ICT coordinators will be
asked to validate the content of the software. They will also be given questionnaire regarding the acceptability of the software. Then, lesson
exemplar will be developed using e-Motion: ALS

Research Questions/Objectives
List the research questions/objectives that you plan to answer/reach to achieve the purpose of your action research.
