KIDS 4 KINDNESS

Kids today hear a lot about "being kind" but don't always know exactly how to do that!

Kids 4 Kindness is a four-lesson study for grades K-5 and can be easily taught at

church or at home. Each Kids 4 Kindness lesson offers a Prayer, Activity & Skit,

Scripture discussion questions, Craft with supplies list, and Coloring page. Using

Ephesians 4:32 as a guide on showing kindness in daily life, children will learn how

God's kindness toward us can be shared with everyone we meet.

TEACHER TIPS

Each lesson offers the Bible verse to contemplate, Ephesians 4:32. This verse from Paul’s letter is used as a
guide for focusing our thoughts and actions on kindness toward all!

SUPPLIES

Read this section and gather all supplies before beginning your lesson. Organize your supplies in the order
you will use them to help lesson time run smoothly.

PRAYER

A good way to start prayer time is to make the experience feel set apart and peaceful. Dimming lights and
lighting candles will decrease distractions and help students to quiet and feel calm. Jesus said, “I am the light
of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Lighting
of candles can serve as a visual representation that God is with us and hears our prayers. You can use small
votive candles in votive holders. If you always have the same students in your group for every lesson you can
add a name label to each candle so that every student has their own candle. When lighting a candle for each
student ask them if they have anything on their heart or mind they would like prayer for. If you do not want to
have fire in your group setting, consider getting battery operated candles the students can switch on
themselves. A scripted prayer is provided for each lesson but feel free to make this time personal by saying
your own prayer that fits your group, or ask if any students would like to offer prayer for the group.

ACTIVITY & SKIT

This time is a great opportunity to break the ice, allowing students to warm up to one another while having
some fun. The activity and skit will allow students the opportunity to participate together while bringing the
lesson theme to life.

SCRIPTURE

Gear the Scripture reading toward what works best for your group. You can use the Bible translation(s) you
are most comfortable with. If you have younger students, pick your favorite children’s Bible. You can assign
older students to take turns reading. You can find a reenactment or cartoon on YouTube to tell the story.

DISCUSSION
This time is an opportunity to nurture safe and open discussion about the ancient biblical writings and what it
means for us today. Allow students the space to answer the questions and ask their own questions. Offer
supportive guidance and assurance when they share their thoughts and feelings on the topic. When students
feel their input is valued they will trust and depend on the relationship they continue to form with you as their
guide.

CRAFT

projects!

Lesson 1: Be Kind to All Kinds

KIDS 4 KINDNESS

LESSON 1: BE KIND TO ALL KINDS

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you
(Ephesians 4:32).

SUPPLIES (Be sure to read the TEACHER TIPS as your prepare for your first lesson!)

• One votive candle for each student • Pedal sheet for each student
• Bible • Scissors
• Poster board • Glue
• Crayons, markers, pencils

PRAYER

Loving God of all creation, we are so grateful to have this time to spend together as a group. We pray we are
able learn today how to be even better at being kind to one another. We ask you God to guide us in our
lesson and throughout our day. Amen.

ACTIVITY & SKIT

Play the preference game (see directions on the next page)

Three students will be needed to act out the skit (or the teacher can read all the parts of the skit aloud if
students prefer not to act)

SCRIPTURE

Read John 4:1-30 (or “The Woman at the Well” story from your children’s Bible)

DISCUSSION
In this story the woman that Jesus is talking to is Samaritan, and Jesus is Jewish. This means they are
different from each other because they have different religious beliefs. But Jesus does not care they are
different. Jesus is kind to the woman. He sets a perfect example for us.

• How did the woman react to Jesus’s kindness? Was she glad he was kind to her?
• Why do you think we are all different from one another in certain ways? How does this help the world?
• Why is important to be kind to all people?

CRAFT

• Create a flower collage together as a group. On a poster board draw a large flower with as many pedals as
students in your group. Cut out and trace the pedal template onto your poster board. Print out enough
pedals for each student to decorate (however they like). They can color it, draw designs or pictures on it,
write their name on their pedal, and any words or phrases important to them. Then they can cut out and
paste on to a pedal on the poster board.
• Talk about how just like each pedal on the flower, we are all unique and different in certain ways, and we are
all part of God’s creation, equally important to God.

*Ask your students and church family to donate travel-size toiletries for Lesson 4 Activity!

LESSON 1: BE KIND TO ALL KINDS

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you
(Ephesians 4:32).

ACTIVITY—PLAY THE PREFERENCE GAME

You will need enough space for students to move around the room for this game. (If you do not have a lot of
space students can just raise their hands to what they prefer.). Ask students to line up side by side in one line in
the middle of the room. Use the list below to ask the students which they prefer. If the student likes the first item
better they take a step forward, if the student likes the second item better they take a step backward. By the end
of the list the students should all be standing in different areas of the room, no longer side by side. The game
shows the students that we all have things we disagree about. Just because we ended up in different locations of
the room because we do not agree on everything doesn’t mean we won’t be kind to one another. There is no
disagreement (whether its a silly disagreement or a serious disagreement) that should cause us to not be kind.

LESSON 1: BE KIND TO ALL KINDS

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you
(Ephesians 4:32).

SKIT- MILO AND GINGER

Three students will be needed to act out the skit (or the teacher can read all the parts of the skit aloud if
students prefer not to act or cannot yet read). Ginger and Milo are two characters on stage. The third
character is the voice of God and should be sitting o to the side and out of sight if possible.

Milo the Monkey and Ginger the Gira e are buddies in the savanna. But Milo is not always kind and it
hurts Ginger’s feelings. Ginger decides to talk to God about how she is feeling.

Ginger- “Hi there Milo Monkey!”

Milo- “Oh hi Ginger Giraffe! Hey look at this cool trick I learned to do” (Milo does a break dance)

Ginger- “Wow that’s cool! I saw you do that trick at school yesterday.”

Milo- "Oh yeah that’s right. I’m sorry if you felt left out at all. Giraffes just can’t do all the cool things monkeys can”

Ginger- “Thats ok, I had a good time just watching you and the other monkeys do all that climbing and ipping.”

Milo- “Hey look at this” (Milo does another dance trick)

Ginger- That’s great, Milo

Milo- “Well, I gotta go, but I will see you later at school, right?”

Ginger- “Yep, bye!”

Milo runs off

Ginger- (sighs sadly and begins to pray) God are you there?

God’s voice- “Yes Ginger, I am here, I am always here any time you need me”

Ginger- “God, sometimes I really hate being a giraffe! Did you see all those cool tricks Milo Monkey can do? I wish
I could ip around like that.”

God’s voice- “I understand Ginger. It is hard feeling different, isn’t it? But you know what?”

Ginger- (still in prayer) “What?”

God’s voice- “I have given each living creature their very own special gifts. There are things you can do that Milo
cannot.”

Ginger- “Oh yeah, like what?”

God’s voice- “Well you are the tallest mammal on earth. You can run fast because you are so tall. Faster than
Milo and all the other monkeys.”

Ginger- “I can?”

God’s voice- “Yes, you can run up to 35 miles per hour. And you have cool spots, like no other giraffe’s spots.
You can stand for a really long time without getting tired. You have really big feet that are very strong and will
protect you from predators. You have four stomachs so you can store lots of food and you only get thirsty every
few days, so you don’t have to stop and take a drink like lots of other animals.”

Ginger- (still in prayer) “Wow, I guess I am pretty special. Even though I am different from Milo Monkey, I can do
some pretty cool stuff. Thank you, God.”

God’s voice- “You are welcome Ginger. You can talk to me any time. I am always here for you. I love you always
and forever."

Ginger- “Amen!”

Milo comes back

Milo- “Hey, do you want to walk to school together?"

Ginger- “Sure, let’s go!”

Skit Discussion Questions-

How could Milo have been more kind to Ginger?

What could Ginger say to Milo on their walk to school?

How did praying to God help Ginger to feel better?
