WELCOME TO 9th GRADE CHEMISTRY

2020-2021 ACADEMIC YEAR 9th GRADE CHEMISTRY SYLLABUS


Class Expectations: Follow these simple instructions and you will achieve success ☺ in this course. Most
importantly, try your best!
❖ Arrive on time to class (online or physical ☺ ). If you arrive late, it will affect your class participation grade.
❖ To learn properly, you should give your full attention in class.
▪ You should listen to the teacher’s instructions.
▪ Remain silent when the teacher or another student is talking.
❖ All classroom discussion will take place in English both in and out of the classroom.
❖ Copying of work is not permitted at any time. If this happens, appropriate consequences will be issued.
ACADEMIC HONESTY is required for all work!

❖ Respect this space because it is your learning environment.


▪ Keep it clean and organized
▪ Raise your hand when you want to share an idea or answer a question
▪ Wait to be called on before speaking
▪ Ask permission before leaving your seat when the lesson ends
▪ Respect your friends and keep silent during exams and quizzes

MATERIALS: You are expected to come prepared to class with:

• Notebook
• Folder (for organization of worksheets, handouts, lab reports, etc.)
• Pen, pencil, eraser
• Class materials – hand-outs, worksheets, class notes and lab sheets
• Apple device
• Chemistry Book (Pearson, Introductory Chemistry)

TIME:
• 2 periods/ week (each period consisting of 40 minutes)

ASSESSMENT: Your assessment will consist of written and performance grades.

Assessments (may change due to the regulations of Ministry of Education)
• Common exams will last for 50 minutes and will concentrate on the work covered
in the previous weeks.
Written In each term: • Details of the material covered by each exam will be advertised a week before the

• Sharing of materials during the exams will not be permitted
• No questions during exam
In each term: 1st performance grade will include: 2nd performance grade will include

• Class performance (30%)*

* Class performance includes active participation during lesson (online or face to face), being prepared for the
lesson, coming to the lesson on time and respecting the classroom environment.

Submit assigned work on time. Late work will not receive full credit. You will lose 10% each day for not
submitting an assignment or lab report. When absent, you are responsible to check your assignments on the online
platform, ConnectED SAC.

* Students that are absent from formal labs or quizzes with a valid excuse are required to do a make-up. They will
be given one opportunity for a make-up as scheduled by the instructor. Unexcused absences will earn a zero.
