SUGGESTED FINE MOTOR ACTIVITIES
Fine motor skills are those that involve a refined use of the small muscles which
control the hand, fingers and thumb. Developing fine motor skills helps to build the
foundation for important future skills like writing and selfcare.

We have selected these activities for the summer break to improve the fine motor
skills of the children. Kindly encourage them to do the activities.

tray with a spoon from a bowl.

muscles of the body to perform everyday functions.
We have selected three activities per week for the summer break to keep our children physically
active and to take a step towards their healthier life style.
NOTE:
1. Start these activities with small warm up exercise of deep inhale and deep exhale.
2. Encourage your child by giving them stars as per their performances.

ACTIVITIES TO BE DONE DURING SUMMER VACATION
LIFESKILLS TO MAKE CHILDREN INDEPENDENT.

Life skills are valuable lessons that kids can use throughout their lifetime. Teaching your
kids life skills at an early age is not only important for self-care and sufficiency— it also
allows them to feel empowered, work on socialization and reasoning, and help develop
healthy self-esteem.
Let’s reflect upon on what all major life skills can be taught to our little learners during this
challengingtime that will make them confident in their decision-making skills.

1. HOUSEHOLD-CHORES:

This can range from making bed, helping in doing laundry, watering the plants, filling water
bottles, drying the clothes, helping in cleaning the washrooms, doing utensils. Basically it
involves everything needed for your house to keep it functioning smoothly.

2. TIME-MANAGEMENT SKILLS:

Now that we have ample time in hand, we can help our learners set bedtime, establish meal
times, follow a particular screen time or help them manage their own calendar.

3. ORGANISING SKILLS:

One of the best ways to help learners become more organised is by teaching them the
concept of checklist, planners, sorting and categorizing. From organising toys to arranging
books and crayons, these small acts can prove beneficial once the child reaches high school.

4. MONEY MANAGEMENT SKILLS:

This can be started by giving them a transparent jar/piggy bank where the learned can see
their money “grow”. Yes, visuals have greater impact on their mind. And then we educate
them about how their toys are priced & how their money will decrease from the jar if they
break or don't keep their toys properly.

5. BASIC ETIQUETTE AND MANNERS:

We can teach our learners table manners, how to greet guest, respect old age people,
acknowledge everyone.

6. BASIC GROOMING:

This involves self-shower, cleanliness, brushing teeth, wearing matching clothes, body
odour, hair & skincare.
7. CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT:

We all know that how our earth is healing during this lockdown. Show them the sky; tell
them how pollution level has drastically decreased because there no more vehicles on the
road make them hear chirping birds which was missing before. Let them feel proud of it.

8. TAKING CONSENT:

“No means No”, so let them know this.

9. TEACHING THE CONCEPT OF “GOOD TOUCH” AND “BAD TOUCH”:

While schools all over the world are taking this very seriously, the parents should continue
reminding their kids about pros and cons of this skill.

10. HOW TO TALK TO STRANGERS:

Teaching social distancing in this context is a good idea now as learners can relate to it. They
will understand how personal safety can be attained if we avoid talking to strangers.

11. GENDER EQUALITY:

It’s that time of the era where our learners MUST know that Blue is not only meant for boys
but also girls, a boy can play with kitchen set and a girl can opt for football as her favourite
sport.

12. EMPATHY:

Being empathetic is the need of the hour because due to this sudden lockdown, there are
many poor helpless people who are out of job & money. So learners should be taught to be
empathetic towards them by donating food & money, by not wasting any food, by
understanding the plight of the labourers who are currently without any accommodation.

Now comes another challenge! How to make the teaching interesting? How can I playfully
get my kids to do a task? The secret is incorporating your children’s passions, like listening
to music, singing and dancing into playful activities. Idea is to not make the work look like a
burden to the kids, instead turning the chores into some fun games. So we need to brainstorm
other playful ideas with our kids. And we adults will come up with lot of innovative and
creative ways to teach life skills to kids. Alongside, additional incentive & reward system
will motivate the kids more and they will take ownership of their work.

While it may be tempting and overwhelming at times, and it’s necessary for parents to speak
up and advocate for their kids, this should be the exception, not the rule. Instead, embrace
opportunities for kids to take the lead, and stand up for themselves. These moments will help build
kids’ confidence and set them up for greater success as adults.
TIME FOR TOGETHERNESS
1. Narrate incidents of your childhood (in a story form) to your child which your
child can relate to. Spend a little time to listen to whatever your child has to say.
2. Sit down with your child and read out the current news and make them aware
about daily happenings.
3. Story time- Read aloud as many stories to your child, make them interesting with
your voice modulation, gestures etc. Encourage the child to narrate same stories in
his/ her words.
4. Take your child for a nature walk which could be an outing to a park, garden etc.
after lockdown is over and with due precautions to observe the nature. You could
talk and discuss with him/her as you both are walking. On returning encourage the
child to speak about her/his observations and also to draw the same.
5. Provide paper and crayons to your child daily. Encourage him/her to draw
whatever he/she likes to. Ask the child about the drawing and write down the
description given by the child at the back of the drawing.
