TUKWAFA SEWING PROJECT – PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Tukwafa Sewing Project was established in 2013 by two members (women) who are unemployed.
The project is situated in Omupanda village (at Omupanda growth center) in Ongwediva
Constituency. The project is still being run by the two women and they have trained a number of
other women that they call in occasionally to assist when they have received a lot of work.

The project received a grant from Oshana Regional Council, Ongwediva Constituency through the
Rural Employment Scheme program. Even though they have acquired a trading land and the growth
centre, the project has been operating from a zinc structure which is currently in dilapidated
condition and not fit for their operation and now they are operating in a rented place which is
consuming up most of their profit.

The project is not yet registered with BIPA so they do not have a business bank account. However,
the project members keep records of their cash follow (bookkeeping). Their monthly income is
ranging between N$500 – N$3200.

The fact that at their moment they are not operating from their own place is making it difficult for
them to make profit from their sales. Therefore, they will appreciate any assistance to upgrade their
business structure so that they do not have to continue renting. They will also appreciate additional
sewing machine as at the moment they only have one industrial sewing machine.
