4. Thematic Priority:

 Training women and unemployed youth on entrepreneurial skill.

 Vocational skills training.

 Help the startup entrepreneurs in revolving and mobilizing fund from different sources
for their entrepreneurial activities.
5. Context/Background of Project

The capacity building project of women, girls and unemployed youth on entrepreneurship will
be implemented on the outskirts Rubkuay payam Mayiandit County, the same project will also
be replicated and implemented in Tutnyang payam, Mayiandit County of Unity state/ Bentiu-
South Sudan. AWACD happened to choose these two payams because large population among
women, girls as well as unemployed youths in these payams are facing extreme livelihood and
economic challenges caused by the lack of unemployment and capacity to mobilize resources
through entrepreneurial activities. People living in these areas are in condition of extreme
poverty and consequently they have no possibility to afford the costs of basic needs, such as
shelter, education, healthcare and food simply because they don’t have access the public
services nor capacity to establish their own business.

Rubkuay and Tutnyang payams in Mayiandit County are small slum areas in rural area of Unity
state/Bentiu, South Sudan. Unity State is the subject of social mapping for a variety of reasons.
it is one among 10 state of South Sudan, it is better known as one of the three conflict-affected
states in the country. Due to its geographic location and association with the Greater Upper
Nile region. It covers an area of 38,837 sq km (14,995 sq mi) and is inhabited predominantly by
two ethnic groups – the Nuer and small population of Dinka. Its economy is primarily
agricultural but it is also rich in oil resources

Problem to address
The women and youth are seriously affected by the economic and social problems. The
economic problem is lack of employment opportunities and inadequate capacity in business
and entrepreneurship to establish their own source of incomes. Even though youth especially
girl’s population is dominant in the town, there are no enough jobs to absorb them and there is
very high unemployment. As a result, the women and girls do not able to cater for their
households need and end up in sever food insecurity since there is no other copying
mechanism to support their families. Both women and unemployed youth do involve in illegal
activities such as chewing chat (local stimulant plant), drinking alcohol, cattle raiding properties
theft, gangsters, kidnapping and so on to sustain their lives. All these social habits and bad
practices caused by lack of access to required capacity and skills for coping mechanism with the
situation affecting them etc.
6. Description of Action:

The overall objective of this project is to create an enabling environment and improve the
living standards of people living in slums and marginalized areas through entrepreneurship skills
training and support for the women and unemployed youth of Rubkuay and Tutnyang payams
in Mayiandit of Unity state/Bentiu so that they can be self - dependent, contribute to the
development of the area and be an active participant in development effort of the nation.
Specific objectives are to inculcate entrepreneurial skills in the women, girls and youth, to make
them self-employed, and initiate the girls and youth to be engaged in sporting activities, small
business (micro-credit revolving fund), vocational skills training, CT enterprises and other
similar innovative and creative projects.
AWACD dedicate its time and effort to be a part of the Solution affecting these vulnerable
women and youths, however the organization does not have enough financial resources to
fulfill its mission and objective. But it has a strong team of human resources who are well
qualified and experienced to project implementation. The organization follows regular
monitoring, sharing experiences and immediate action for the successful implementation of the
activities. AWACD target the most rural villagers to ensure its support to develop of the women,
unemployed youths and children to building their skill and capacity.
In this project, our targeted beneficiaries are unemployed women, girls and other youth who
are unemployed and don’t have skills to start their own businesses. Some of the women and
girls may have minimum education but they lack minimum skill and knowledge required to get
the employment opportunity or to create self-employment for their livelihood sustainability
through entrepreneurship activities

Project outcomes:
The main benefit and outcomes of these project to both women and youths includes.
Women and youth will be able to have skills and capacity to enable them for job employment
opportunities or to create their own jobs. Most of the women and youth in town will be skilled
and have the required enterprise development knowledge, petty trading and related activities.
After the skill training and with the help of the organization they will be able to envisaged and
mobilize startup capital.
For Vocational training activities women and youth and orphans will be able to have capacity in
vocational service especially in carpentry, computer maintenance, tailoring, hairdressing,
catering, masonry and brick laying, welding and electrical work.
