Dahal seeks suggestions from leaders on presidential and vice-presidential elections

KATHMANDU: CpN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has urged the standing
committee members to form their views on the issue. Dahal also briefed the standing committee
meeting on contemporary political issues.

Dahal has sought suggestions from the party leaders at a time when incumbent President Bidya Devi
Bhandari's term is coming to an end on March 29 and preparations are underway for the election for the
new President.

Standing Committee member Maheshwor Jung Gahatraj said dahal had urged dahal to come up with an
opinion on the country's future politics. "Now the country will focus on the election of president and
vice president. In this meeting of the Standing Committee, the election of president and vice president
will also be discussed. Everyone has said that they should form an opinion on this," Gahatraj said.

एमालेसँगको गठबन्धनलाई नै अगाडि बढाउने आफ्नो पूर्ण प्रयास रहने कुरा पनि दाहालले स्थायी
कमिटीमा राखेका थिए । उनले एमालेसँग २०७५ सालमा भएको पार्टी एकतादे खि एकता विघटनसम्मका
विषय पनि राखेका थिए ।

स्थायी कमिटी सदस्य जयपुरी घर्तीले बैठकमा अध्यक्ष दाहालले राखेका विषयबारे भनिन ्, 'विगतमा पार्टी
एकता भयो फेरि विघटन भयो, यो पष्ृ ठभूमिमा अहिले सरकार बनेको छ । यो गठबन्धन टिकाउने र अर्को
निर्वाचनसम्म लैजाने भन्ने हाम्रो कोसिस रहन्छ भन्ने कुरा राख्नुभएको थियो ।'
Dahal informed the standing committee that discussions were underway with the ruling partner UML
regarding the presidential election. Discussions are also underway with leaders of other political parties
in the alliance on how to move forward if the Congress has given a vote of confidence to the
government, he said.

Dahal had said that the UML had said that it would field the presidential candidate from the alliance and
the Nepali Congress had staked claim to the post after the vote of confidence. Quoting Dahal on the
issue, Gharti said, "We should discuss with everyone. The Congress has also supported it. Discussions are
also underway in the coalition about the president. Within the ruling coalition, there is an agreement to
nominate the uml as the presidential candidate and the Maoist Center as the vice-president candidate.

After the standing committee meeting, leader Devendra Poudel has said that a person who protects the
constitution should be brought forward for the post of President. "If we can put forward the personality
as per the provisions of the constitution in the president's post, then we can control the possible
accidents of tomorrow, protect the constitution, maintain consensus and take the present structure of
the parliament for five years," Poudel said at the Maoist central office in Parisdanda on Thursday. Uml
and NC have reached an agreement. It would be better if we can carry forward the persona of
consensus. '

A meeting of the Standing Committee of the CpN (Maoist Centre) is scheduled to discuss the agenda
from Friday. Party vice-president and party spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said the meeting
would be held from 11 am on Friday to discuss the agenda. The agenda of the standing committee
meeting has been placed on the expansion of the organization, the addition of vice-president in the
party and contemporary political issues.

Dahal submits report to standing committee on reasons for quitting NC and joining UML

Kathmandu: Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has submitted a report
to the party's Standing Committee on contemporary politics. He presented a written report on
contemporary politics in the standing committee meeting that began on Thursday.
Dahal has mentioned in the report about the formation of the government under his leadership, power
sharing with the UML after the collapse of the Maoist-Congress alliance, the vote of confidence given by
the NC and the presidential election. Dahal also shared his views at the standing committee meeting on
issues such as party vice-president and spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara's decision to leave the
alliance with the NC.

"Before the formation of the government, we left the alliance and reached another agreement during
the election, election situation, our situation, party's position and when the government was formed, he
briefed about that situation and how the government is going now," Mahara said.

The party's standing committee meeting also has agenda including party unification and organization
expansion. The agenda will also be discussed on Friday. The standing committee meeting will be held at
11 am on Friday.
