5 DEL INGLÉS Mexico
Economy of Mexico
The economy of Mexico
is a developing market
economy. It is the 16th
largest in the world in
nominal terms and the 11th
largest by purchasing power
parity, according to the
International Monetary
Fund. Purchasing power parity (PPP)[1] is a measurement of prices in different
countries that uses the prices of specific goods to compare the absolute
purchasing power of the countries' currencies.
PARADIGMAS
6 DEL INGLÉS Mexico
The Mexican economy has had unprecedented
macroeconomic stability, which has reduced inflation and
interest rates to record lows and has increased per capita
income. In spite of this, enormous gaps remain between the
urban and the rural population, the northern and southern
states, and the rich and the poor.

Extensive changes in government economic policy and

attempts at reducing government interference through
privatization of several sectors, for better or worse, allowed
Mexico to remain the biggest economy in Latin America, until
2005 when it became the second-largest. Despite these
changes, Mexico continues to suffer great social inequality
and lack of opportunities.

7 DEL INGLÉS U.S.
Economy of the United States
The United States has been the world's largest national
economy in terms of GDP since at least the 1920s. For
many years following the Great Depression of the
1930s, when danger of recession appeared most
serious, the government strengthened the economy by
spending heavily itself or cutting taxes so that
consumers would spend more, and by fostering rapid
growth in the money supply, which also encouraged
more spending.
PARADIGMAS
8 DEL INGLÉS U.S.
In 2020, the growth rate of the GDP has started to drop
as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the
GDP shrinking.

The U.S. dollar has maintained its position as the

world's primary reserve currency, although it is
gradually being challenged in that role. Almost two
thirds of currency reserves held around the world are
held in U.S. dollars, compared to around 25% for the
next most popular currency, the euro.
PARADIGMAS
9 DEL INGLÉS U.S.
Since the 1970s, several emerging countries have
begun to close the economic gap with the United
States. In most cases, this has been due to moving the
manufacture of goods formerly made in the U.S. to
countries where they could be made for sufficiently
less money to cover the cost of shipping plus a higher
profit.
