UNIT 5 LAB

Technological Timeline

Pregnancy and childbirth have come a long way in the last several decades! The further you go back in time, the more
you can see just how far we have come in the technology that is used to assist with prenatal and maternal care.

For this lab, you will take a closer look at the technologies that were available in decades past and how these
technologies have advanced over time.

You will begin by researching online the ways that technologies involved with maternal and prenatal care have evolved
over the past decades. There is no specific date in history that you must go back to, but it should be far enough back in
history that you are able to show the improvements and advances in the technology used with maternal and prenatal
care.
UNIT 5 Lab
While you can use the websites listed below as a jumping off point, you will need to do some exploring on your own to seek out enough information
to put together an informative and visually appealing timeline.
Your timeline should show the progression of technologies in prenatal and maternal care spanning at least three to four decades, but you may go
back further in history if you prefer.
Your timeline should include five to eight technological advances. For each advance, you must include:
● The date the technology came about
● A description of the technology
● An image of the technology or advancement
● How it specifically helps women, their unborn children, and/or their pregnancy experience
● How pregnancy/prenatal care was different prior to this advance.
Some websites to help you get started are:
● whattoexpect.com
● news.usc.edu
● thehastingscenter.org
There are lot of additional sites out there with tons of information!
However you choose to set-up your informational timeline, make sure to include all of the information required. You also need to include a
list of all the websites and resources that you used in your research.
For more information in how you will be graded, please refer to the rubric below.
