Study Notes 2 | LIMIT THEOREMS

Limit Theorems

As with every section, you should carefully read section 17. You should also review the basic limit
laws and methods, as they relate to sequences, in your calculus book. Here we will supply only a couple
of examples and, if you have specific questions when working the problems, I will address them at that
time.

Example:

Example:

Notice that Looking at the value in parenthesis, the numerator

and denominator both have factors. If we compare each and every factor of the numerator to one
in the denominator, we know that the value in parenthesis must be less than or equal to one for every

natural number. Making this substitution, we have . Now, since

we know from the squeeze theorem that also.

Example: Show that if , then

We will assume , since . Then for some . Using the binomial

formula yields .

So . Since as we have, from the squeeze as .
