Week 1 Chapter 1. Part 1.

Explain what human relations is and where it starts Human relations are the study of relationships among people and how they interact. Human relations start with you and your ability, experience, skills and attributes. Part 2. Why is human relations important in our personal and work lives? What do you think would happen to businesses whose employees did not show effective human relation skills? Human relation is important because it helps you develop relations with customers employees and whoever else you would come in contact with. If employees dont show great human relations I think they should be shown then if they still dont get it they should be let go. Part 3. What are the three categories of skills identified by Partnership for the 21st Century skills? Gives examples of personal qualities and skills of each category. The three categories of 21st century skills are Learning and innovation skills ex. Creativity, communication. Information media and technology skills ex. Media and technology. Life and career skills ex. Flexibility and adaptability. Part 4. What are your human relations responsibilities in an organization? Be a motivated self-starter, be a good team leader, develop leadership ability, Importance, demonstrates your character. Part 5. What outside forces can affect organizations? Competition, globalization, economic events legal and

political unrest. Part 6. How is technology changing the world of work and affecting human relations? It is changing the world of work by making employers look for employees with more technological experience and smarts it also is making the employees be more involved and interact with each other is solving problems and show human relations. Part 7. I feel you added the short story to show us that getting an education is important and gets you places that you couldnt otherwise get to unless you had an education. It also relates to human relations as in if the boilermaker would had communicated to the steamship owner better or the steamship owner communicated to him better it might not had cost him as much he probably could had fixed it himself

Week 4. Chapter 6. 1. What is a problem and what are the steps in problem solving? The steps to problem solving determine what decisions should be made first, whether an individual or a group should decide, and choosing decision making tools. 2. Define decision tree, ABC Analysis, cost benefit analysis, PERT chart, quality circle, Six Sigma, and Six Thinking Hats. Decision tree- is a graphic depiction of how alternative solutions lead to various possibilities. ABC Analysis- is concentration of decisions where the potential for payoff is greatest Cost benefit analysis- is examination of the pros and cons of each proposed solution PERT chart- program evaluation and review technique carta graphic technique for planning projects in which a great number of tasks must be coordinated Quality circle- committee of 6 to 15employees generally volunteers from same work area which meets regularly to examine and suggest solution to common problems Six Sigma- sophisticated method of continuous process improvement that uses a structured statistical approach to improve bottom line results. Six Thinking Hats- a form of group decision making designed by Edward de Bono hat gives each person a role to play in wearing the 6 hats o intelligence. 3. What is the role of creativity in problem solving and what are

the basic steps in the creative process? Creativity gives you the ability to think of ways you could solve a problem Stages Preparation Concentration Incubation Illumination Verification 4. What are the sources of creativity in organizations and what are ways to encourage creativity and to get new ideas through organizations? Sources of creativity is experiments and trying to get rid of blocks such as emotional and informational blocks to get rid of those blocks you should try changing scenes getting fresh air or doing something different. 5. If you are currently working of have worked, think about your organization. What is the level of creativity in it? What steps is the organization or your supervisor taking to stimulate creativity? What are you doing to develop your own creative ability? The level of creativity is low where I work because we are drilled into a certain routine and how you are suppose to do it you have no room for creativity.
