Question#4
Barbara and Marvin Davis founded the Children's Diabetes Foundation (CDF) in 1977 in
Denver as a voluntary organization dedicated only to the funding of diabetes studies and the
provision of the latest patient care services for children and adults living with the disease.
The charity has collected more than $100 million for the Barbara Davis Childhood Diabetes
Center, caring for children with type1 diabetes. The CDF further strives to improve diabetes
knowledge, gives aid to parents, and organizes local events. The CDF runs various programs
for supporting diabetic children and their families (Children’s Diabetes Foundation, 2019).
Children Diabetes Foundation Advocacy Program
In this initiative, CDF involves young advocates ages 6-18 with type1 diabetes (T1D) to
portray a favorable response toward the disease by informing and raising awareness
regarding diabetes. Those teenagers aim to spread the message about diabetes and interact
with other T1D children. These young advocates should have the desire to change things by
volunteering for a worthy cause. These CDF advocates are open to sharing their T1D stories
with communities or the media.
They must commit to the CDF Advocate program for 12 months and finish at least 20 hours
of service. The young volunteers in the Denver region run education/awareness stations and
promote diabetes awareness at nearby schools or in the after-school programs.
They spend an entire or half-day at the Barbara Davis Center educating BDC patients about
CDF. They make handmade products and send messages to individuals diagnosed.
