Business studies & research
Once employees have been trained, they may need further development to
prepare for their responsibilities. Training helps employees do their current jobs.
Development by contrast helps the individual handle future responsibilities. It has
been estimated that UA business spend more than $30 billion annually on training
and development programs. A survey by the American society for training and
development found that firm should invest at least 2% of payroll in training and
development.
Similarly, to help employees establish career goals, some department offer career
counselling. The counselor is someone who listen to employee interest and
provide the specific job-related information. Counselor tests individual by
administrating and interpreting, aptitude, skills and psychological and other tests.
Two tests in particular “The ruder preference record” and the “strong vocational
interest blank” are useful for guiding people into their occupations. Slow growth
and restructuring through downsizing have eliminated many career opportunities
for hardworking employees. Burn out is a condition of mental, emotional and
prolonged stress.
Through training and development, learning principles are guidelines to the ways
in which people mostly learn effectively. Employee obsolescence results when an
employee is no longer processes the knowledge or abilities needed to perform. In
fact, in such state, more rapidly the environment changes, the more likely is that
employees will become obsolete. When an employee reaches a career plateau,
obsolescence may be more likely. A career plateau occurs when an employee
does well enough not to be demoted or fired out but not so well that he or she is
likely to be promoted. When the employees realize that he or she is at this career
plateau, the motivation to stay current may be reduced.
