CAREERS IN CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGY 1

Abstract

Criminal psychology provides a variety of future career fields that have become increasingly

popular in Minnesota. However, before entering a job in criminal psychology, many expectations

must first be met. Among other challenges, those interested in the career must complete an

undergraduate psychology program, pass the EPPP and PRE exams, and maintain a psychologist

license. Aside from the educational aspect, those with interest in this career should expect to

regularly use critical thinking and reasoning and should feel comfortable in tense situations.

After all certifications are complete, a criminal psychologist will enter a career field full of

11,000 job opportunities and should expect to make an average of $83,000 annually. As of now,

the field consists of around 1,500 criminal psychologists and is expected to grow by 14 percent

in the coming decade. Ultimately, criminal psychologists help further an understanding of

criminal behavior within communities and work to minimize crime.
