Requirements for Avoiding Plagiarism

MLA 8th Edition Example:

Any research or academic writing project for a college course that requires students to
integrate and cite source information in the paper must avoid plagiarism. To fully avoid
plagiarism, you must complete TWO steps:

• List of sources at the end of the paper. This is called Works Cited for MLA.
• In-text citations are placed at the end of sentences within the body of the paper to
indicate that sentence either paraphrase source information or “quotes exact wording
from the source.”
o MLA in-text citations reference the beginning of the works cited entry with either
an author name or source title and then a page number for source with printed
page numbers. Here are some examples: (Boyle 77); (Banner); (Miller et al. 128);
(“About Us”); (Book Title); or (Rogers and Stark).

Sample Body Paragraph from Research Paper:

This body paragraph is meant to be an example of paraphrasing, quoting, and citing


source information. Let’s begin with a paraphrase from our example source. One fascinating
