OVERVIEW
Welcome to this module! As a grade six learner, you must be very eager to start
with the learning activities prepared for you. The activities in the module have been
designed to provide you with rich and stimulating learning experience that will help
you communicate better in English and enhance your understanding to different
stories. You will do in a little while, but before you do, try to familiarize yourself with
the different parts of this module. It is important that you should know and follow
what each part covers so that you can achieve the learning objectives for each part.

What Is It
Read and Learn
Root Words are the basic words to which affixes (prefixes and suffixes) are added to
form the new word.
The ideal way to use root words is to produce multiple words based on the same
root. Also, you can use the root word to infer the meaning of the word. Many English root
words are common Latin and Greek roots and knowing them can help you understand many
English words

What Is It
Today, you will learn to infer the meaning of the borrowed words using prefixes. To
learn more about this lesson, kindly read the information below. You have learned that you
can form new words with new meanings by using prefixes.
Prefixes are affixes that are placed at the beginning of a word to modify or change
the meaning of that word. The prefix re- means again, dis- means apart of away from, and
un- means not. Hence, your knowledge of the meaning of function of the prefix can help you
infer the meaning of the word. The table below is a list of commonly used prefixes, its
meaning and the words that contain them.

What Is It
Did you like the story? In this section you will appreciate the beauty behind the story
you have just read. Today, you will infer meaning of words using suffixes.
Suffixes are word parts added at the end of the root word to change the meaning of
that word. There are suffixes that came from foreign origin. We borrowed these to form a
new word. We need to learn the meaning of these foreign words as we modify the words
using these suffixes. From these meaning, we can now form base words into new words
using the foreign origin.
