16. What operations can be performed using drilling jigs?

Ans. Drilling jigs are used for operations like drilling, tapping, reaming, and counter boring etc.

17. How hydraulic clamp?

2
Ans. Hydraulic clamps use incompressible fluid such as oil. Due to pressure of oil (8N/mm ) in the
cylinder, the ram moves downwards and presses the clamp against the work. For Unclamping, the oil is
discharged from the cylinder; thespring pushes the clamp and rams moves upward to free the work piece.

18. What is the function of welding fixture?

Ans. The basic purpose of welding fixtures is to locate and hold the parts together in their position during
the welding.

19. What is Channel jig?

Ans. The body of channel jig is in the form of standard channel. The Component is locates in a channel is
clamped by screw. It is used for drilling simple symmetrical shapes.

20. What is the use of Universal Jig?

Ans. Universal Jig is used for drilling work pieces having parallel surfaces. The jig plate is moved by
handle which operates rack and pinion.

21. What is Cam clamp?

Ans. Cam clamp is quick action device for clamping, but they tend to loose due to vibration. It is operated
by actuating the handle.

22. Give at least two essential features of a well-designed drill jig?

Ans.
 It design should be simple, foolproof and less expensive.
 Its locating points should be accurate and clearly visible to the operator.
 The loading and unloading of components should be easy.

23. Give the main purpose for using renewable bushings?

Ans. It is used for more than one operation through the same location.

24. Write the use of the Angle plate jig?

Ans. Angle plate jig is used for such type of job, which is to be machined at right angle to its mounting
locator.

25. Write the use of the Channel jig?
Ans. Channel jig is used where job is held between two sides and the operation is performed from third
side.
26. In a drill jig only bushing are hardened .Give probable reason for this?
Ans. Jig bushings are hardened to avoid wear and tear. The body of the drill jig is not hardened because
it may break due to shock and vibrations.

27. Name two group of jigs?

Ans.
 Drill jig
 Boring jig

28. Write the use of indexing fixture?

Ans. Indexing fixture is used for machining the job at equal spaces.

29. Write the use of vice jaw fixture?

Ans. Vice jaw fixture is used for machining small jobs of different shapes.

30. What is meant by fool proofing?

Ans. Fool proofing is done to ensure that the job will set in to the jig in correct position.

31. What do you understand by multiple clamping?

Ans. In this type of clamping a special device is used in which more than one job can be clamped with
equal pressure. This type of camping is generally useful in production shop.

32. What is the function of its jig plate?

Ans. It is the part of a drill jig, which is used for the holding the bushings in positions.

33. What is a gauge?

 Reduce the production cost and supervision charges

35. What is the feeler gauge used for?

Ans. Feeler gauge used for to measure gap between mating parts.

36. What is the main difference between a template and a gauge?

Ans. A template made from mild steel and used for checking the shape of the parts while a gauge is
made from tool steel and is used for checking dimension of the parts.

37. What precaution should be taken before using a gauge on a component?

Ans. Make sure that the component is of good finish, clean and free from burrs.
