Reverse-Osmosis
Systems
for marine and land based
application
Hamworthy Serck Como GmbH design and manufacture
reverse-osmosis (RO) units which are used for producing
fresh water from sea water and well water. These plants are
for marine (ship, offshore) and land based installation for
producing process, technical or potable water. Several
applications for treatment of industrial water are possible
on request.
Description of plant and process
The sea water (feed) is pre-treated in our filtration unit,
therefore nearly all particles smaller than 5µm will be
removed. The high pressure pump will induce the needed
operation pressure. The sea water flows through the
pressure vessels. Inside the vessels are membrane elements.
These elements let the water molecules pass through. Ions,
bacteria, virus, etc. will be retained and discharged with the
concentrate flow. Only small monovalent ions (Na+, Cl-) will
pass, too, in a low percentage value. The number of
membrane elements, operation pressure and rejection is
dependant from requested water quality and quality of feed
water. Back pressure at concentrate and permeate piping
should be maximum 2 bar, feed pressure of 0.2 - 0.5 bar will
be enough for operation.
RO-Units are installed either very compact on a single base
frame or each module (pre-filtration, pumps, membrane
section) on an extra one, depending on request. They are
equipped with all necessary measuring equipment and
valves for full automatic operation. The tank for flushing is
always included; the chemical cleaning system can be
delivered separately.
Advantages:

Small and effective pre-filtration unit with automatic back
flushing filter and cartridges as polisher.

Easy retrofit because of modular installation, which is
flexible to adapt on site.

Valves are available with electric or pneumatic actuators.

All components are manufactured of corrosion resistant
material.

Easy operation because of touch panel.

Pre-commissioning has been done before delivery.

All units are pressure tested before delivery to the
customer.
Characteristics:

The permeate capacity of our standard RO-units is in the
range of 50 -1000 t/d.

Residual salt content of permeate < 500 µS/cm for potable
water, or < 5 µS/cm for technical water (min. 2 stages).

Full automatic operation and semi-automatic operation
available.
Options:

Energy recovery unit to reduce power consumption of the
high pressure pump (capacity more than 250m³/d).

Preheating unit to get a constant seawater temperature at
the inlet (e.g. heat exchanger, mixing with warm water)
for constant permeate flow in cold water areas.

Second stage for technical water (complete or branch
permeate flow).

Multi-media filter for pre-treatment available.
