Analyzing
This Lighthouse Communications video gives you a step-by-step formula for creating interest
in your topic, connecting with your audience, and building credibility. When you're looking to
find a talk on a topic you're interested in, TED Talks might be the first thing that pops into your
mind. Their strength comes from the original ideas, insights, useful content and impressive
presentation skills of the speakers.
1. Use personal stories to keep your audience engaged
The quickest way to spur an emotional response from an audience is to tell the story of
your own experience. The essence of the story is its ability to evoke emotion and interaction
from the listener. Therefore by doing this, they can feel connected to nature and immediately find
your conversation more "authentic", and therefore willing to hear more from you.
You can also weave your stories into your lectures to build your opinion on the topic and
present your arguments persuasively. Apart from research-based evidence, you can use personal
stories as a powerful tool to create compelling and compelling presentations.
2. Make your audience work
However as interesting as your speech is, there may be times when the audience takes
their attention away from your speech for a moment. That's why it's important that you have
some activity that grabs their attention and keeps them engaged.
3. Slides are to help, not to drown
Most TED Talks come with slides, and you'll rarely see a TED speaker use slides that are
more colorful than text or numbers. Instead, they are usually simplified in terms of decoration
and content, and tend to be in the form of graphics, images, or videos. This helps draw the
audience's attention to the content the speaker is referring to, and flatters the idea they are trying
to convey
4. Genuine, be yourself
This has to do not only with your presentation style and HOW you convey your ideas, but
also with WHAT you deliver. You can see this clearly in TED Talks, where one speaker's idea
can be similar to another, but what matters is how they see it from another perspective and
develop it in their own way. The audience won't want to listen to an old topic, with an old
approach that hundreds of people might have chosen. Think about how you can make a
difference and add your own individuality to your speech, thereby truly bringing valuable
content to the audience.
